    I can't stand this forum

Some good rules: Don't disrespect your elders. They have seen more than you Don't disregard your juniors. They may have new insights. Offer your opinion in good faith. Don't take things personally.

    Standards in Free Fall

I'm of the opinion that any Recognition ROE that prohibits inducing stress should be aired to the grad community. Pushing personal limits is the point...

Air Force SMP (I need some help)

What is your end goal? Enlisting is a big commitment that doesn't necessarily provide the best past to commissioning. In general, someone who enlists then does ROTC will add several years to their path. It's not always a bad way to go, but it does introduce competing requirements.

    A move to Colorado Springs

Generally, I'd say no. Let them come home at Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. It's nice to actually "come home" to the place you have friends from childhood vs go across town to a new house. Now, if you want to move to C-springs for reasons outside your son/daughter's academy time, that's different.

Changes to GG Rotary Flight Training

Sounds more like a cost-cutting/burden shifting plan than training improvement. That said, I don't know the specifics of the USCG or USN programs. I do know on the AF side, pilots get half the flight hours before earning wings vs what I got. I don't consider that "better."

    USAA vs Air Academy CU

USAA isn't what it used to be, but it's ease of use is still good.

    Honest Opinion

Sounds like you have an ok foundation. Is that the strongest record? No. Is it within the range of normal applicants? I'd say yes. Keep building.

Are Academy grads/cadets/mids privileged for their "free" education?

I don't disagree, but the next question is a sort of " so what?" How should we judge/react to those with no abnormal hindrances?

Are Academy grads/cadets/mids privileged for their "free" education?

I'm not a fan of how many people think about "privilege" these days. It read like jealousy and hate more than something useful. Is it an amazing opportunity? Yes. Was I fortunate to have a family that encouraged me to do the things that set me up to succeed? Definitely! Is an service...

Medically DQ'ed, struggling with moving on

What kind of job do you want to do? There are many options, but it's hard to give advice if we don't know your goals.

Coast Guard Academy supports transitioning (male to female) cadet

Fair question. I'm sure each case has to be reviewed individually.

    Career AF pilot

It depends. (As always!). You can do all flying assignments, and probably make it to 20yrs, but it will limit promotion competitiveness after Major. If only staying for your UPT commitment (10yrs after graduation from UPT), there is a good chance to fly all of it. If you want to promote past...

    NORAD Closes Their "Tavern"

So, mixed feelings on this one. I'm actually supportive of having a bar/social place SO LONG AS there are certain rules followed. The chief one being, no drinking on duty. Once the work day is done, I'm all for people hanging out. As an aviator, there have been plenty of lessons learned...

    Initial Flight Training

It is a LOT of info in a short period of time. USAFA is not easy, but the volume over time is less than UPT. (Your son probably would have found college easier, if he had taken 1/3rd of the classes already!...which is about what I'd say having a commercial/cfi would be like entering UPT)

    Standards in Free Fall

Hard to say, not being there. Were some cadets wearing the uniform slightly out of regs? (yes). Did some occasionally get snarky with leadership. (yes). For both of those, there are borderline cases and egregious cases. There is a big difference between adding some sarcasm to a "Duly noted...

Do (TV show) 'JAG-style' military careers in the US Navy actually exist?

Generally, the show was absurd (but fun). Lawyers don't see that much action. Now, I suppose if one became a fighter pilot, switched to the reserves and became a lawyer on the weekdays, you could get close!

    Initial Flight Training

UPT bases have Christmas off, now it depends on how short a trip he is willing to make (might only be Christmas day, with airlines...taking the 24th and 26th). He can probably get the BF/OL sheet in 3 days. It's 2 pages.

Navy aircraft overshoots runway and goes into a bay in Hawaii

Oof. Not great. Glad everyone walked away! As to what happens next--there will be an investigation. If it is just pilot error, it depends on the circumstances and what their command wants to do. I know pilots who destroyed aircraft that kept flying, and have have met others who did not. E.g...

Garmont NFS vs Oakley boots? + Sock recommendations

Boots are very much open to preference. As a flyer, I wear Rocky S2Vs, since they are flight approved. Traction on wet surfaces is a little sketchy though. I used to wear insulated Danners, when I was up north. Those were VERY nice, imo. As for socks, Darn Tough is a good brand...

    Oath of Office

Dated info, but parents don't get to interact with their basics after drop-off on I day. You can give them the oath when they commission.
