Rep. Courtney speaks out against efforts to change USCGA admissions policy

What a great speaker... focused and takes things in steps. Did he graduate from USCGA in Government? :shake:

    College Re-Applicant

The USCGA looks very favorably upon second-year applicants who do well at college with a 4th class-esque schedule. Reapplying from college shows the Academy that you have serious drive to become a cadet since you will start over from scratch at the Academy as a 4/c. I was a re-applicant last...

    Letters of Recommendation

I recommend sending in the maximum number of positive teacher recommendations that you can. When I applied I think it was 5?

    Coast Guard Academy Competitiveness?

Your profile looks very strong to me. You have plenty of leadership in a variety of organizations with diverse missions. Your strong involvement in community service will be instrumental in your application (Make sure you mention your service and how you feel about it in your application)...

    AIM 2011

When I attended in 2009, no pillow was provided; they just gave you the room. So you basically just have the bed frame and the mattress with regard to your question

    Best of luck to them!

CGA Incoming class expected to be most diverse ever

In response to: 1) The example you provided with respect to women dealt with stereotypes, prejudices, and societal forces in general. I do not think this applies to our conversation here. What we are discussing is the new program the academy has made available to minority students, what its...

    Conditional Appointment

My Admissions Officer sent my family a nice e-mail today. He's looking into alternative commissioning options for me. :) Whatever comes out of his search, be it negative or not, it's nice to have someone on your side to look out for you. Also, my former XC captain at my high school, who is...

    What would you do

Exactly. If anything, I think that an individual being disciplined at a university is more impressive as it displays self-motivation and the sheer determination that one needs to be successful at the USCGA. I'm not saying that those who attend the prep schools do not exhibit these traits, but I...

    Conditional Appointment

Sorry for the sparse message before, I was pretty upset and my capacity to type was compromised . As I said, my waiver was disapproved, and I'm reasonably disappointed. However, I'm happy to have some sense of closure (unless my AO calls back with some miracle, lol). I'd still like to...

    Conditional Appointment

Waiver disapproved by Coast Guard PSC.

AIM items not on the list?

I seem to remember the list being pretty complete. Bring plenty of underwear and socks since you'll be going through those really quickly.

    Conditional Appointment

Waiver request forwarded to Superintendent... hopefully there is still enough time for it to be processed should the Superintendent O.K. it. Only 7 more days until the deadline. -Andrew

    Questions about USCGA Admissions

I think that BruceRTalbot's recommendations are very good. You likely already know to take the AP classes and do well on the ACT etc. According to many people I've met throughout my application process, the aspect that a lot of applicants don't stress enough is their community service; likely...

    Conditional Appointment

I thought I might give everyone here an update to my application after a bit over a month. Not much has changed; I'm still waiting for a medical waiver. My AO remains optimistic, and the academy's operations support officer is nice and still answers my requests to know my waiver status. He...

    Sports at USCGA?

Nice Karate Kid reference. Dropped dead laughing when I saw this :yllol:

    April 15th

Sending in updated activities/grades is probably a good idea. I'm not sure how waitlisters fare (I was on the waitlist last year), but I hear that they tend to have better luck as reapplicants :)
  20. Y

    Oh, the waiting!!

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on how busy/behind schedule they are. Last year I was notified of waitlist status 5ish days after the deadline if I remember correctly (by mail). -Andrew
