    TJHSST

Yes, there are, but this is probably not the best place to ask. I know of one but would not be comfortable passing along their info, either in this forum or privately. You should really check with the Guidance Office at TJ to get that information and be put in contact with current and/or former...

    2/7

For those who are interested/curious, the USNA Facebook page has a photo album posted showing the 2/7 commitment signing. Lots of smiles! Not only do the Mids sign their own individual commitment papers, they also sign a large scroll along with everyone in their class. Pretty impressive!

    Just got a CVW!

FWIW, that weekend will not be a "typical" weekend at USNA. Not only will there be multiple class reunions and the first home football game of the season, it is also 2nd Class Parents Weekend. The place will be packed with visitors. If your parents are planning to come with you and stay in a...

    After Parent's Day

There is no guarantee that your plebe will even have town liberty for the time between PPW and Brigade reform. Stuff happens. One person may do something really stupid, and all the plebes in that Company pay the price. That can mean the cancellation of liberty for all of them. They really...

    5 APs?

My now 2/C Mid took 9 AP courses in high school -- Biology as a sophomore, Calc AB, Psychology and US History as a junior, and 5 as a senior. Senior year AP courses were Statistics, Physics BC, English Lit, Government, and another one that escapes me. Got 4's and 5's on exams. The 5 on the...

When do you find out what company you are in?

    d. mcknight, If you are traveling alone to I-Day, there will be an opportunity after the Oath of Office for you to borrow a cell phone to make a call home, at which time you can convey your platoon and company (might not hurt to pass along your Alpha code too). I believe the Maryland Parents...

    Intersession

Lots of administrative stuff. Buying textbooks and supplies for upcoming classes. Getting their rooms squared away. Inspections of said rooms. Visits to Uniform shop and barber shop if necessary. Company briefings with incoming leadership to set forth expectations for upcoming semester...

ACE Loan? - Class of 2016

ACE loan for Class of 2014 was $8500. Loan repayments are automatically deducted from the Mid's monthly paycheck. Certain scholarships can be applied to the loan, as long as they meet the criteria, so that shortens the repayment period.

    Acceptance to NASS

Also, do not be too disheartened if you are placed on the waiting list. We received a call about 72 hours before the start of NASS and were told that our now-Youngster had come off the wait-list for acceptance. We overnighted the payment, packed a bag, and took off for Annapolis.

    2C Parents Weekend

The dates were announced to the USNA Parents Clubs a week or so ago. Some may have forwarded the info to their members, others may not have done so yet.

    Yard Card

Forgot to mention that in order for parents to put $$ on the Yard Card, you will need your Mid's alpha number, a 6-digit number that is unique to them during their time at USNA. First two digits are the class year, e.g., 16xxxx. Your Plebe will have this number committed to memory by the end...

    Yard Card

You should receive info on the Yard Card in the PTR. Two years ago, IIRC, we went to the website in August and loaded the card for our Mid. I think that was the earliest it could be done. They had some sort of special promotion so that if you put a certain amount on the card, they would add...

    Updated Plebe Summer 2016 Info

Sunday mornings are free over PS. You can attend chapel services if you like. Apparently they provide doughnuts, so there's an additional incentive to go! It is the one block of time during the week that Plebes have an opportunity to escape from their detailers.

Induction Day - wish i had remembered.....

There is no 3/C PPW, only one is for 2/C and that is in the fall of their 2/C year. There are a lot more activities over PPW than there are on I-Day. One of the things you are able to do over PPW is see your Plebe's room in Bancroft. Ours was on the top deck, which I think involved us...

Looks like I am going to USNA now...

Hurricane is a Firstie and will have graduated by the time you arrive. A word of caution -- as a Plebe, upperclass are NOT your friends. You will have a much better chance of surviving Plebe Summer if you do what you are ordered to do, show respect, and not try to buddy up to your detailers.

    Midshipman Candidates to Plebes

Once you take the Oath of Office, you are in the US Navy and your rank is Midshipman. Until that point, you are a civilian.

Girls: do they cut your hair on Induction Day?

Cupcake -- go to the USNA website or the USNA Facebook page (maybe even YouTube) and look for photos/videos taken over Plebe Summer. You will see lots of females and their haircuts. Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words, and you will better understand what you will be dealing...

    Phones at USNA

Bancroft Hall is like a bunker -- very, very thick concrete walls. Reception is better in some wings of the building than in others. Verizon works most of the time, but we occasionally experience dropped calls. Texting works much better for us. Plebes cannot talk on the phone while walking...

    4/C Summer Cruise

Not trying to be Negative Ned here, but your plebe may have only marginal control over his "best options" regarding his summer cruise. Our Youngster put in for San Diego but was assigned to Norfolk. The ship never left the pier the entire 3 weeks, and he was assigned to an enlisted who was...

    USNA Golf Club

Yes, Mids are allowed to play the course at USNA. At $6 for nine holes, it's the best bargain in town. The most challenging part will be finding a place to stash the clubs!
