    NROTC Marine Option

Marine options are reviewed by a separate board. November in the fall and February in late winter. My son was notified of his scholarship by his recruiter in late March 2008. The letter from Pensacola came in April. At the time he applied (Jan 2008) I heard there was a third board, but was...

    NROTC Uniforms

My son was a 4C Mid (Marine option) last year at RPI and was allowed to buy his desert camo to wear on campus. It probably varies from school to school.

    financial aid ROTC policy

Thank you, gojack. I was concerned because nowhere in that document is the word "stipend" used. I only saw "subsistence" and "monthly housing allowance." I'm not sure why the college is having a difficult time figuring it out.

    financial aid ROTC policy

Is the "subsistence allowance" actually the stipend? My son's school is trying to figure out whether or not the stipend must be excluded from the EFA.

What Uniforms Are ROTC Midshipmen Issued

He was able to wear digital camo to his naval science classes; at the discretion of the commanding officer, the MOs were allowed to wear them rather than Navy khakis. He's transferring to a different school for the fall, and may have to wear khakis - not sure. From Wikipedia, "NROTC students...

What Uniforms Are ROTC Midshipmen Issued

Marine-option son was issued Navy khakis, dress whites, dress blues, and the old-style Marine camo. He purchased Marine digital desert camo. He was also issued combat boots and dress shoes. I think he got some t-shirts and shorts as well.

Things to take to College for ROTC

On the nose, scoutpilot. I had no idea what Dexron was. I'm sure my DS will pick up many homegrown recipes...and I won't ask for details!

Things to take to College for ROTC

Niagara Spray Starch and Sizing is a great idea. We'll be sending him off to school in the fall with both! You can use wooden hangers on the Wonder Hanger. Our DS didn't have a dresser and went to school in NY, where the temperature varied widely from September to December. He needed...

Things to take to College for ROTC

I'll have to pass this along to my Marine option - I recognize three of the four ingredients :-)

Things to take to College for ROTC

It works well if you keep treating the stain. DS had someone spill coffee on his cap and the Tide stick completely removed the stain. The Wonder Hanger does seem to work well. He hung his "working" clothes (camo and khakis) on one, and casual polos and pants on the other. That saved a lot of...

Things to take to College for ROTC

My son is NROTC-Marine option. He needed rubbing alcohol to take the shine off his dress black shoes. He also asked for a hair cutting kit because he has to cut his hair (shaves his head, actually) each week. I picked up the Remington Studio Style professional clipper at Best Buy for about $30 -...

    NROTC...a couple of questions?

Last year my son was a mid 4C at RPI and I think his PT was 4 times a week; however, he's Marine-option so there was an extra PT session just for the Marines. His naval science classes were at 6 a.m. - this may have been because a number of the NROTC students also played football (my son...

Is the AF out of money?

Although my DS is NROTC-MO, I thought this was a great piece of advice. I included it in an email to him. Thanks!

NROTC scholarship & Transferring to a different University

It is certainly possible if you are requesting the transfer for the beginning of the next school year - my son's request for transfer was just approved, and he will begin sophomore year at the school he tried to get into last year (but was waitlisted at) with his scholarship intact. However...

    Nrotc & usna

Kat, my son was in a similar situation last year and was also told by USNA he was an outstanding candidate. He was notified on 3/23 of his Marine option NROTC scholarship, and notified by USNA on 4/15 that he was waitlisted. He accepted the NROTC scholarship about the same time he was told by...
