    Pilot opportunities in the CG?

Something also of interest. The CG was given 14 C-27s by the Air Force in FY2014. Attempts were made to missionize them. They have failed and all C-27s currently in use will remain cargo only and will be phased out by 2028.

Current Self Prep at Marion Military Institute- ask any questions!

FWIW I went to MMI 2019-2020. 1450 SAT. 4.0 GPA both semesters. Accepted to USCGA. Got nomination for USAFA but didn't get in.

    Music programs at CGA

Definitely. Regimental band practices when the rest of the corps of cadets is practicing rifle drill. Literally no extra practice commitment for regimental band. Jazz band usually meets 7-8 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays. Orchestra usually meets at 7:30 PM on Mondays. Windjammers usually meets...

    Music programs at CGA

So you can just bring your instrument on Day 1. That is what I did with my trombone. The cadre will put it away in the band locker. There isn't a try out. All instrumental bands at CGA are open to everyone. We need as many folks as we can get. The only musical groups that I know of that are...

    Music programs at CGA

The cadet band director (CWO4 Frenkel) just retired. He was in charge of all instrumental music. They are in the process of getting a new cadet band director. Dr. Danny McDavitt is in charge of all vocal music. His email is daniel.r.mcdavitt@uscga.edu. I did Windjammers Drum and Bugle Corps...

    USCGA Archery Club

I have never heard of that club here at CGA. We have club pistol and rifle teams. And a Combat Arms team. But no archery club to my knowledge.

To load up on spring term classes before academy or not?

Just saw your post. I would definitely take statics here at CGA in that case. In my opinion no need to take it twice unless if he wants a really solid background.

To load up on spring term classes before academy or not?

Just personal opinion here coming from a 1/c cadet. I would ensure that he still takes whatever the minimum credit load is to be considered a full-time student. I would also caution him and say to not overload himself. The academy would look very unfavorably upon bad grades (mainly Ds and Fs)...

Anyone with experience with USCGA Flight Team?

Flight team funding comes from Cadet Activities Fund (CAF) and the Coast Guard Aviation Association (CGAA).

    Choosing Major and Job

The guy beating the narco sub with his fist actually was an LT. So that's pretty cool. Here is the clip from San Francisco fleet week 2020 when he was interviewed (skip to 6:37)

Anyone with experience with USCGA Flight Team?

So it's definitely possible. I know several classmates and members of class of 2025 and 2026 who have gotten their PPL in their free time while training at the academy. I would just say it is challenging. There is a flight school at the Groton-New London Airport. I got my instrument rating...

Anyone with experience with USCGA Flight Team?

The flight team takes everyone with a PPL. You join your first year (in the first semester). We compete at the inter service academy flight competition at KSWF (hosted by West Point). Against USMA and USNA. USAFA is too far to travel to it. Not very time consuming. We have several varsity...

What are some steps I need to be taking right now to make being accepted into the academy a reality?

Class rank is 70% grades (CGPA), 25% CER (Cadet Evaluation Report...which is your military evaluation for each semester or summer training period), 5% PFE score.

What are some steps I need to be taking right now to make being accepted into the academy a reality?

I definitely think your flight experience will help you, however, just having flight time will not get you in. You have to be well rounded (academics, sports/extracurriculars, etc). I didn't get accepted to CGA my first time as a high senior. 1450 SAT, Track/XC runner (not good enough to run...

What are some steps I need to be taking right now to make being accepted into the academy a reality?

Impressive that you have 400 hours of fixed wing time. Obviously you have to wait until 16 to solo and 17 for your PPL. I am currently a 1/c cadet at USCGA with around 385 hours of fixed wing time (CPL, Instrument Rating, Multi Engine Rating). I put in for CG flight school as my top billet...

    CGA First Assignments to graduates.

Class of 2024 is smaller than the past few CGA classes. We have 230 in our class. The past few classes have had around 240-250.

    2028 Applications?

Bold move posting on SAF as a swab most likely on Eagle. Still have 195 weeks left in your 200 week journey. But agreed. CGA is pretty awesome. Maybe not in the moment. Others have said it before but the academies are "great places to be from." The bonds you forge with your classmates are...

    CGA baseball

1/c Cadet here. I disagree. If you are on a varsity team at CGA, you are committed (for at least that season). I would argue there are no "casual" varsity athletes at the academy. Club sports maybe. IC sports definitely. Granted sometimes cadet athletes on varsity teams find the sport too...
