    Plebe summer

"Can you explain how most things at the Academy are one time deals (especially grades, PRT, room inspections)? Shouldn't the chain of command ALWAYS be tracking/concerned about their people (15 weeks per semester vs. 3 weeks of plebe summer)?" Shouldn't they? Yes. The fact still remains...

    Plebe summer

It's the sad truth, but many people can and do skate by three years at the academy while not assuming much responsibility. Regardless, helping a plebe/youngster get his grades up or other one-time deals is quite different from the responsibility of a plebe summer squad leader who is...

    Plebe summer

Agreed. The reason why being a detailer is a good training experience is because the plebes are the #1 priority. For a lot of people this is the first time that they aren't thinking about themselves, but rather the training and welfare of others.

    Travel for breaks

Nope, no need to reserve a seat. Traveling in uniform definitely has its perks, but I'd rather travel in civilian clothes any day of the week.

    Travel for breaks

No one will know about Christmas leave until the final exam schedule comes out. For Thanksgiving, we go on an early academic schedule the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Every Mid is done with classes by about 1 PM or earlier and we can leave immediately following our last class. For both...

    The Plebe Hack continues

Wow, that sounds awful, and is quite untrue. Do you really think someone is going to fry you unless you go untreated? Anyway, they should have given your plebe a Tricare card which states "To obtain authorization for non-emergency care or for out of area care, call Tricare at : 1-877-Tricare".

    CFA Scores?

Scott, mine was pretty awful as well. Can you quantify?

    Chaplains at the Academy

If he's the Rabbi I'm thinking of, he's a great guy and has a lot of fans.

    Chaplains at the Academy

As a current Mid I highly agree. I'm of the agnostic persuasion, but the Chaplains are a great group of people.

Amen. I shed a single tear when I saw the kid shimmy up the monument like it was a tree trunk.

    Dentist?

Perhaps he doesn't remember or they changed, but lately you get your plebe summer check-up, one half-way through youngster year, precommissioning business second class year, and then again firstie year.

How do you fit two dudes in one rack?

    Dentist?

Navy, and more specifically, Brigade Dental are extremely professional and competent. USNA has a once-a-year mandatory dental screening for all midshipmen, and then they go ahead and recommend any cleaning or work done. Outside of that once yearly screening/cleaning it is the midshipman's...

Care packages ---what to send next!

I would have appreciated some deodorant and body wash. The issued unisex deodorant and soap is terrible.

Heat Exhaustion at the USNA Today

The color parade business was very ridiculous. Nearly all of those who fell out walked away (simply a case of poor planning the day before), and many were repeat offenders at other parades and did not head the warnings to sit it out.

    That's because 1st Reg sucks.

    USNA vs. Other Options

Yeah, I doubt there was ever an infallible way to stack it. Rumor also has it that you MUST go to Leatherneck to compete for a Marine slot in the future.

Phone coverage and wireless at USNA

In my experience Verizon has the best coverage in Annapolis (on the yard and otherwise) and throughout the Northeast. At the same time if you do not get coverage at a certain spot on the yard with any carrier, there is always a spot within a short walk where you can. Not worth changing carriers.
