    CFA question

Perhaps I should have said "can far exceed those max scores." Not to be nit picky.

    No sports

Practice for the CFA... a lot. And I am not kidding. RUN RUN RUN, and practice for the CFA timed, in order of event. So many hopefuls neglect to practice for this test in this manner, and conk out during that long run at the end. If you play a horn, contact the band that plays at football...

    Class size

In some ways, I guess you could say my twins had a class size of literally hundreds, if not thousands. They took some cyber charter school classes (and actually got a diploma from that school), AND attended two local universities, starting when they were 16.

    Class size

The number in our high school was TWO! (Homeschooled twins)

minimum GPA needed to be considered competitive?

Take practice tests, especially if you are not familiar with the format of standardized testing (many homeschoolers are not, since usually their curriculum is more learning focused than test-score focused. Not dissing school stuff, but I know at our local PS high school, the entire month of...

    MEDICAL TURN-BACK PROBLEMS

I am really sorry that your DD had to undergo a medical procedure that has ended her USAFA career. I thought she was waiting for medical turnback paperwork, not an "ended USAFA career?"

    CFA question

Remember that your child is competing against kids who are going to (sometimes far) exceed those posted MAX scores. If s/he were my son, I would definitely go into training for the CFA NOW. AND, train in order of event. Train hard. IN ORDER OF EVENT.

    Thanksgiving Time Off

We waited for them when they were flying home at baggage claim but while they had a 2 hour wait at the gate flying back to CO, we always hauled ourselves along. Plus, I got to visit the STEELER SHOP at the airport, so how great a combo was that?

    SAMI Requirements

Make up your bed, then sleep in your chair or on the floor for the next 9 months. :)

    Should I visit the campus?

If you are anticipating playing on any D1 Sport team, contact the coach ASAP. They may be able to bring you to CO on a recruiting trip (this was true for my son. I'll let you guess the sport). If not, I would wait until the orientation - April-ish? You can see a lot online. We live in PA...

    Thanksgiving Time Off

Yeah, those TG flights are $$$. Christmas-time flights drop substantially. Did you parents know you can meet your cadet AT THE GATE??? Yep, show your ID and you can meet Junior at the gate as he steps off that plane, or go out with him to wait for two hours on the return. They're akin to...

    Thanksgiving Time Off

That's true, Capri. Some sports, not yet even in their regular season, have scrimmages, required practices, media events, which will prevent them leaving USAFA at all. Hard for some kids, especially on that "Winter Break." And then there's the old adage: "You don't have to go home, but you...

    Thanksgiving Time Off

When my kids were at USAFA, the return was Monday, not Sunday. Interestingly, it SNOWED LIKE CRAZY that Monday, and many cadets didn't make it back to USAFA by the appointed time, some not till Tuesday. A bit scary for some, especially some 4*s. My kids made it on time, but we had them fly...

Do I have a chance at class of 2024?

RUDY! for NROTC. Lots of ND grads begin their college careers at Holy Cross. Good program. I wasn't aware of it (not keeping up so much with Navy), and am glad to know of its existence.

    Sending Mail

We sent letters written on computer paper on which we'd printed current and old pictures (B&W). One son's squad allowed it (provided he shared the pix), the other son - nope. NO PACKAGES. NO PACKAGES. NO PACKAGES. Here's an idea we got from a mom years ago which worked wonders and the...

    USAFA or College

But this does happen, every year! That's how people get that thick envelope... in mid May!

Do I have a chance at class of 2024?

GaitherDad, unless he's got something spectacular he's holding back, he's not getting into Notre Dame. Your SAT/ACT scores are pretty low, and I would strongly STRONGLY recommend a tutoring program, ASAP. You've got the summer to study. I don't want to be a DebbieDowner, but those scores...

    USAFA or College

It's an important question regarding civilian colleges, as they require sometimes large deposits, often nonrefundable. You can change your mind about an SA - and many people do - after BCT, before Recognition, before Commitment. No harm, no foul (for you, though you may indeed have taken the...

    Parents on A Day

Again a reminder: Parents and girl/boyfriends who live outside of an easy driving distance may want to save their money and go to ALL events of Parents Weekend. Literally, A-Day is only a couple hours of visiting. Some cadets would prefer a long nap to visiting, some have to prepare for their...

    Parents on A Day

When my boys celebrated A-Day, some kindly folks brought lots of food and they chowed down! I think they were on a 5000+ calorie per day diet then so maybe they just ate their way through the few hours. They had so much fun just being together during that time. We still have a picture on the...
