    Medical minefield...Who knew?

Just-A-Mom, Thank you for taking the time to comment. You are correct. My assertion that the sheer number of DQ's played a role in my sons waiver denial was purely speculation on my part. Truth be known, anything I say on this forum is either personal observation or pure speculation...

    Medical minefield...Who knew?

Good luck to you Riverdale. I hope you hear good news. We are thankful that our son was apparently thought highly enough by the USNA that they requested a waiver for him. Unfortunatley, the waiver was denied. He actually would have required several waivers, so we knew early on it was a...

    Medical minefield...Who knew?

Perhaps I am alone on this, but am I the only one here who was caught totally unaware by the exceedingly tight medical requirements necessary to persue admittance to a service academy? My family does not live in an area with heavy military presence and we do not have much in the way of a...

    DQ'd! Now what?

Honestly, you can consider yourself fortunate that you received what sounds like a little guidance. At least someone pointed you in the direction to which to focus your energy. My son has been going through this process for months and has had nothing that approaches guidance in any way the...

    DoDMERB waiver information

Mr. Mullen, It may be that many people feel their waiver will be hastily rejected without any further query from the waiver authority, thus deciding the matter without getting an opportunity to plead their case. That is where my son stands, DQ'd and awaiting his fate without having an...

    History of Asthma and SA's

1985...Not to worry, I am aware of the individualized nature of this process. I'm not trying to be catty either. Its just that this forum is rife with people looking for answers and hope. 90% of the posts regarding medical issues end without answer one way or the other for those searching. I was...

    History of Asthma and SA's

Amen! BEST ANSWER TO A DODMERB QUESTION I HAVE READ ON THIS FORUM! Awesome, an actual personal experience followed by the eventual outcome! Finally! For once a pertinent query about the DODMERB morass is answered without disapearing after the obligitory "Send your name and SS # to...

    Updating completed file

Well, that lets us out. Must have missed the bus on developing and utilizing personal contacts in the admissions dept. During this process I got the overwhelming vibe of "don't call us, we'll call you". Apparently I was the only one, because it seems everyone else has a contact of one source...

    Updating completed file

How exactly does one update your "file"? The only thing I am aware of is my CIS portal and all that information is complete. I see nothing that can be updated except for additional test scores. If anyone can detail how they are personally updating their file it would be much appreciated...

    Labral Tear

Thanks LAXFAN...congratulation on you success. Unfortunately, we just found out about the tear being present last Thursday. My son would have to have the surgery now, forfiet his Sr. season of baseball on the hopes of receiving a waiver in time for I-Day. One waiver may be possible, but...

    Labral Tear

Well....we just got the news. Small tear in the posterior part of the labrum. Doctor said it shouldn't be an issue except for throwing baseballs. Says it Realistically it appears my sons chances just went down the drain. We can't ask the boy to give up his Sr. season of baseball. Doctor...

    Candidate Weekend Visits

How does you find out who your AC is? Son has met the B&G officer, done the interview and rewceived a nomination but that is it. Is a typical candidate supposed to have any contact with the AC?

    Eagle Scout. Notification?

Alright. I suppose its OK the way it is then. Congrats on your Eagle's! Scouting has been a big part of my sons life. He was the SR. Patrol leader of his troop at this past years National Jamboree and really seemed to bloom with the responsibility of 40 kids. Hopefully USNA likes Eagle...

    Eagle Scout. Notification?

Just a thought. My sons application is complete and we listed his Eagle Scout on his list of EA's. In retrospect, do we need to send any verification of this accomplishment to the Academy. For many other parts of the application process there is significant documentation required, now it seem...

    Pulmonary Function Test Help (asthma)

Thank you Sheelz. Very informative. For us, one waiver would be a starting point. We will need....get this...four! I have said in another post we are attempting to set an Academy record.

    Pulmonary Function Test Help (asthma)

We have the same DQ. Same extinuating circumstances also. After 7th grade middle school football asthma was never an issue again. However, being an unwise parent we had no idea that renewing a prescription for an unused inhaler was such a bad thing. What I don't understand is, if a candidate...

    ACT Scores???

That seems a little off to me. USNA Administraors advise to shoot for 600 / 600 for math and english to be "competitive". An ACT of 30 equates to roughly 680-710 SAT from what I find. My sons 26 in math looks to be 580 - 610 SAT. That is what the online calculators show it as anyway IMO.

    Astigmatism DQ

1985.....Thanks for the info. We are attempting to set an Academy record by successfully navigating four...yes...four DQ's. (asthma, hole in tympanic membrane, rotator cuff, and astigmatism) Good thing we didn't mention that he's a leper with club feet and uncontrollable projectile vomiting...

    Status information location?

Thanks for the information. It appears that we are not inadvertantly missing posted information. Apparently qualification status is ascertained thru detective work. As to the moniker, it basically comes from being severely imagination challenged and not being able to come up with...
