    Applying for Selective Service?

It really is quite easy to register for selective service. Besides, I know they will ask for your number during processing. On I-day you want to avoid "attention" from the detailers. Yes it's a little thing, but if detailer will take 10 minutes to "correct" the way a plebe holds his Dixie cup...

    Conditional offer of Appointment!!!

Last year DS was DQ due to his height/weight ratio. He was a LB and defensive lineman on the HS football team. He was all muscle, to the level that he had a hard time floating on his back in a pool, kept sinking... anyway, after DODMERB DQd him he had to have a body fat determination...

Enlisted (USMC Reserves) to USNA as Plan B

Just something else to consider I was in the USAF. I imagine that USN is similar... Assuming that is true...you will spend a couple months in basic training, then you will go to training for your particular specialty, requiring various lengths of time depending upon the complexity of your...

Class of 2017 Mailbox Stalkers Club

Hello...again Just lurking...watched with interest so many great candidates last year. I'm curious to see the successes of those that were appointed to NAPS, had Falcon Scholarships, and so forth. I guess I'm just one of those people who have to know "the end of the story," or perhaps it would...

    USNA 2017 Mailbox Stalkers Club

Hi Luke. I assume you're prior enlisted. Your journey has been different from many of us, and equally difficult and competitive I understand. Congrats on making it this far. If you're blessed with an appointment you'll find that your fellow plebes will enjoy having someone like you that has...

    USNA 2017 Mailbox Stalkers Club

March is when the bulk of the appointments happen. You'll see the appointment thread start getting pretty busy then. What's interesting from what I observed last year is that there is really no telling how you'll find out. I think it depends on what part of the country you're from. Sometimes you...

    USNA 2017 Mailbox Stalkers Club

DS is currently a Plebe at USNA. But I vividly remember the pressure cooker that waiting for that BFE (Big Fat Envelope) can be. I also remember what a pressure reliever a thread like this can be. Here's one of my posts from last year... "Even before DS got the USNA appt, I knew that DS will...

Are plebes allowed to have a camera?

I don't know that I'd recommend a camera for plebe summer. I don't think they can have one until PS is over. But perhaps some USNA Mids might be able to offer a little guidance.

    Plebe Tech?

What he said ^^ . DS is a plebe this year. Our experience shows that the less you take to Plebe Summer the happier you'll be. After plebe summer, depending on what company you're in, you might not be allowed anything other than what you are issued. Personal belongings can also be impacted by...

Interesting stuff. Advantage? I think so. :o

DS is a 1st generation from S. Korea. He was appointed last year and is a plebe at USNA. I'm not aware of his having any particular advantage or disadvantage due to his heritage. He speaks very, VERY little Korean, but took honors French in HS. My guess is that speaking Russian fluently might...

    Yet another LOA question

DS got his LOA within two days after submission of his CFA, which at that point in the process, was the only thing he hadn't already completed.

    Sandy

Pictures on a couple of the USNA Parent FB pages show no serious flooding. Biggest issue seems to be that some of the mids got out the vevezuelas (sp?), and the sounds of those things could drive anybody insane. Bancroft will hold our mids in safety.

    Bad CFA vs. Outstanding Grades

DS is currently at USNA. He applied at both USAFA and USNA last year. It was a "toss up" for him as to which SA he would go to if accepted at both...The decision was made for him...and the decider was the CFA. None of his scores were "bad." His mile was a little lower (about 30 sec.) than the...

CFA Scores - How do they look?

Just my .02... if you're not at or very close to the averages, continue until you are. Have a parent or a friend time you on the CFA as often as you can. USNA allows you to resubmit better scores, take advantage of that! Unless you are well above the average scores nobody here can tell you if...

likelyhood of 2 from same school receiving appointment?

Yep, it happens... My DS was accepted to USNA and is currently there as a Plebe. His best friend was also accepted and is also currently there as a recruited athlete. Just remember two things...1) both had great academics, differing, but equal community service, and both were on the FB team, he...

CFA Scores - Am I in trouble?

DS was accepted to USNA with an LOA, but not to USAFA. The reason was the CFA. I think USAFA considers different items in the CFA due to altitude, and we are flat-landers from sea level. Don't know for sure, just guessing. Anyway, he was a linebacker and lineman for the HS football team. He did...
