You can branch whatever you want to branch, assuming you've got the grades. I know engineering majors who went Aviation, IT majors that went Armor. As of now, no one gets forced into a branch based on their major (with some exceptions for engineers)

All I know was that preference was given for kids that were IT majors or otherwise very involved with the cyber program here

What security purposes are you concerned with? Identifying your district might help better inform other posters from New York of their chances and could encourage someone to pursue their Plan B now versus scrambling in a few months.

The number of base passes goes up every year or semester. Base passes are basically free passes available as long as you aren't deficient. Performance passes are technically limited (1 or 2 per semester maybe) but many companies don't track them and I know of some classmates who took pass 5+...

Does he have a pass to use? If he hasn't used his base pass, he should be fine (unless he is trying to return late on Sunday?). If he doesn't have a pass and is trying to get a performance pass, he should still be fine unless he's failing a class, etc.
