Scheduling for senior year is coming up...
I have taken the hardest classes available (Honors).
My goal was to take all the standard sciences and maths, which I will have next year.
Next year I hope to take:
-AP English
-AP American History
-AP Physics
-AP Calc AB
-AP Calc BC
-AP European History, French IV, or AP Psychology

I have taken French I in 8th grade, French II in 9th grade, and French III in 11th grade. Also, Russian I in 10th grade.

Would USMA along with other colleges count French I in 8th grade as a highschool class? I'm asking this because most colleges suggest 3 years of a foreign language and I'd rather not take French again, so I can go for another AP.

Thanks in advance!

Holy AP overload Batman!

you'd kill yourself studying for all those classes. I'd definitely take a long, hard look at myself in the mirror before I signed up for 6 AP classes in one year.

Well, currently I take AP Bio and even though the class average on the last test was 68, I had a 95. I excel at that class. I'm not a great athlete and have average ecs, so I might as well strengthen academics which is my best attribute.

Wow that is a lot of APs! Keep in mind that signing up for a ton of AP classes is one thing, but doing well in them is another. And juggling all those AP classes your senior year? That's going to be extremely difficult, especially when second semester comes around. I'd say that if your classes and grades from 9-11th are good, then you shouldn't stress too heavily over your senior year courses. Not saying you shouldn't take your last year seriously or work hard, but just be sure not to bite off more than you can chew.

Ok thank you. Back to my primary concern:

Yeah don't go overboard on the AP classes senior year. I think it would be especially hard to do well second semester when everyone has a horrible case of senioritis

AVT: call USMA and ask to speak to an admissions rep. That person can answer your foreign language concerns better than we can here. Have seen many cadets do as you are; loading up on AP. Play to your strength...if it's academics, go for it! If you can handle that courseload, your plebe year might not be so bad for you!

You should probably verify it with admissions at West Point, but I don't think French 1 your 8th grade year is going to count as a high school course. I know it wouldn't for most other universities. Half the kids at my school took Spanish 1 their 8th grade year but it doesn't come out in their transcripts as a high school class. The only advantage of taking a foreign language class your 8th grade year is so you can accelerate and take higher level courses of that language in high school

I'll speak to admissions. Anyway my goal is to have 3 years of a foriegn language because that is what my back ups suggest and most colleges. If I end up taking French 4 next year, I can cut off an AP. It's still a modertly difficult course. My club advisor teaches it, so I may get some good reccomendations.

AVT...If you can handle it, definitely take all those APs...I plan on taking 4 APs (US Hist, Calc BC, Lang, Phys) next year (junior year) plus self study of 1-2 more (Psych and Spanish)...and up to 6 AP plus possibly one self-study and possibly a dual enrollment course (DEC hasn't been straightened out for sure yet since we are the first class that is doing what we are with the new curriculum) (Econ-both Micro/Macro in 1 course, US Gov, DEC Calculus, Lit, Chem) my senior year, and I believe I'll be able to handle it (hopefully w/o going nuts:eek:), so good luck to ya.
