Hello,

I am going to be entering my sophomore year of college this upcoming semester and I am thinking about joining AROTC or applying for a 2-year scholarship. First off how competitive are the 2-year scholarships? I have a 3.1 GPA in political science, and 1000 SAT(Probably going to retake) with some extracurriculars.

Also, would a 2-year cadet have less of a chance of getting an active duty slot? It seems it would make sense to prefer cadets who have been there 3 or 4 years rather than 2 in regards to AD or Reserve and Job assignment.

Any Help Would be greatly appreciated!

Your competitiveness is going to depend on the Battalion, since you will be competing for a position on their order of merit list. If the Battalion has lots of cadets already on scholarship or contract then your chances are low. If they are at risk of not making their mission then you could be competitive.

Your chances of getting active duty will depend on a lot of things, including your GPA, fitness level, some standardized tests, and your performance in the program. Your performance grade may be effected by you joining late, and you may make an impression and manage to impress. The fact that you weren't in the program from the beginning isn't necessarily a detriment.
