2012 USAFA Summer Seminar Students

Hey alex! I'm in the same boat as you. I've emailed the officers in charge of the summer seminar, and they've stated that this year is actually the record number of applicants (2500 had to be turned down because there isn't enough room!)
We'll just have to sit tight and wait for now. Best of luck :)

I'm Andrew, and I'm from Illinois. I was just wondering how many people are attending session C. I've read many comments saying how people will be attending sessions A and B, but I haven't heard of too many attending session C.

There's a group on facebook called Air Force Academy Summer Seminar 2012 and there is roughly 16 of us on there that will be attending Session C, including myself.

Thank you. I have actually contacted Lt. Colonel Taylor a few times. He said that about 10% of the people who get accepted turn it down. But I'd like to know where I stand on the waitlist. Is this who your DS contacted?

I'm sorry, I don't remember who he contacted, but GOOD LUCK to you!!

accepted!

I got in literally 2 days after I applied. i thought it would take longer. I'm attending session "C"

I'll be there!

Can't wait for this years Summer Seminar! Im in session B and im looking forward to it. Where's everyone from? Would like to get to know everyone before the seminar

Summer Seminar

Hey guys! I attended SS session C last year right after Boys State. It was a huge eye opener. I went with my best friend. After SS my friend asked me "Well what do you think about the Academy" and I told him "This is it, this is the life for me!" he the questioningly said "Really? I didn't like it at all."

Now I am accepted into the Class of 2016 and will in process the week after the last session. However my friend will not be, as he decided against finishing the application. I just would like to advise all of you to keep an open mind on your feelings towards the Academy. If you are riding the fence after SS and get an appointment, think good and hard about weather or not to accept it. This year was the toughest year in recent history, and next year will probably be the same. So go in and enjoy your time at USAFA but remember that you are there to try it out for a week. You never get to just "try it out again" the next time you go to USAFA you will be in basic and will hopefully stick it out. Sorry that I am rambling, feel free to PM me! Best of luck to everyone!

Can't agree with you more Cook. I went SS session C last year as well (Raptor 28 hooah) and the first night, the Colonel in charge of SS got up in front of us. After all the warning about Doolie for a Day, he asked, "Who thinks they want to go here next year?"

Every hand in that hall went up. Fast forward to the end of that week.

"Who still thinks they want to go here next year?" Maybe 2/3.
For some who had come from USNA SS they liked that better. Others decided the military wasn't for them. And I'm inclined to think some just got scared. But do make sure you keep an open mind there. You'll be happy you went because you have a whole week to ask the cadets there questions about anything. Gives you a solid feel for the attitude of the place.

I worked on rocket and satellite test programs at USNA and I still liked USAFA's feel more. It really is all about how it feels cause you have to decide whether you can live there for four years.

Have fun though, seriously.

2012 usafa ss

Congratulations to ALL of you. My DD was invited to attend the SS last year. She had a great time. Take a look at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYMGB7nmf58.. She is the one with the dark hair standing behind her chair singing and clapping her hands at the same time. My DD has just accepted her scholarship for USAFA Prep School.

GO AIR FORCE!

Packing

My DS is leaving for Session 3 this weekend and we are trying to figure out how much extra space he will need to have in his bag for his return trip home. In regards to the "uniform" that is issued, how many shirts, shorts or other items are given to the attendees? Also, we are debating what a light jacket is - can that be a sweatshirt, or pullover of some type? Thanks.
