2014 Appointment Thread

First time on here--
I'm not very familiar with the USMMA-- other son is USAFA grad...
No word on appt yet but my son's application status now says "Principal". Does anyone know what this means?
Thanks

Amy Nan-Congrats!!! Your son should be receiving his appointment soon. My status changed and a week later it came. Keep an eye out for the Fed Ex envelope.

Texas appointment to the mma

My son received a call from our Congressman telling him the MMA is offering an appointment. DODMERB says "Offer Extended", so I guess my son has an Academy to go to, although the CGA is his first love.

Thank goodness my son took KP over CGA :) Best choice ever...fyi, tell your child that engineers from KP are in extreme demand by the active duty coast guard, because KP grads have much more "hands on" experience than any other academy :):thumb:

kp v cga

I know someone who graduated KP in the 60's and has done very well. My son went to AIM last summer and just really enjoyed it. But he is happy with his admission offer and we will go up soon. Although we are in tx, I am personally bemused since I grew up on LI.

no LOA

Has anyone ever heard of someone getting appointed witout ever getting an LOA? I have everything in, they're just waiting on getting my updated SAT scores in since I took them this past weekend (I'm quite old so they made me take them again). But I never got an LOA and am curious about my chances?

An LOA is not required for an appointment. I do not remember the stats but if you are
3q'ed then it is just a waiting game. So hang tight and look for the big envelope.

Re: KP vs CGA

My DS and the DS of a friend of mine are both at KP 2013. Both boys had a choice and are very glad they are at KP instead of CGA. The opportunities and choices at graduation are the main reason. Also the hands on engineering and deck training are not comparable any where.

But after doing his homework and learning about the year at sea, as well as some problems at the USCGA, the balance is tipping to KP.

I think I might be the friend. I concur. My son too had a choice of USCGA or USMMA. Agonizing decision. I repeat agonizing decision. My son was fairly sure about USMMA, whereas I, wanting to advise him, was more conviced about USCGA. My son was more right than I was. He's in the right place. He likes it as much as can be expected given the fact he is a plebe and the challenging schedule. There are so many choices after graduation. It is a good place and I have seen a remarkable change in our son's character. He was a great kid and he is fast becoming an outstanding young man. I wouldn't change a thing. He's looking forward to spring break now, getting recognized and to sea year.
