2014 BCT Packing List

I guess it's hard to say without seeing the backpack, but as long as the grey is only an accent it should be alright. You are issued one black and one blue backpack at the start of the school year, but most people I know carry their own. The regs say "issued blue USAFA or plain, solid black backpacks may be carried in left hand, over left or both shoulders while in AF blue uniform", which is the uniform we wear pretty much every day.

So are white compression shorts with light gray waistbands that have the Nike pro combat label on them ok? I bought them in a size up so they are comfortable to use as boxer-briefs as well.

Yeah that should be fine, small trademark logos are usually allowed.

Other compression garments?

I've heard a lot about compression shorts, but what about other compression garments such as calf-length leggings or under-armor shirts?

Would such things be allowed? Or would they even be beneficial?

I have no experience wearing compression shorts in sports. However, having tried them on, I found them to be extremely uncomfortable as the fabric scrunches up around the groin when I move, especially during running.

I don't remember anyone wearing either of those from my squad. The leggings would definitely be a no, since no one else is wearing them and you'd stick out like a sore thumb. I can't really think of a situation where the undershirt would be necessary.

Yes, religious reading is allowed

Laundry Marking

The USAF Academy, per direction from SAF and DOD, is systematically eliminating the SSN as an identifier (including the "last 4"). The "student ID" assigned by Admissions is the official replacement. All appointees will find their student ID prominently displayed on their portals.

So...initial and then last four of student ID?

Student IDs have the first three letters as initials, so the whole student ID, I'm assuming?

EDIT:

I Just re-looked at mine and its the first two letters of your first name and the first three letters of your last name and then 4 numbers.

Hence my initial quandry. That is A LOT of letters/numbers to be putting on each piece of clothing, big and small. Going to have to contact AFA it appears.

Guys, don't sweat it. Nobody is going to look at or really care what your underwear looks like. Would I bring polka-dotted ones? No. But compression shorts that are black/white/grey/blue with small trademark logos on them or small amounts of text are FINE. Don't worry about it.

As for what to write in your clothing, you have to put your laundry mark which will be the first letter of your last name followed by the last 4 of your social (eg. A1234).

As Insider stated earlier in this thread, USAFA is doing away with the use of the Social Security number on clothing and will be utilizing the student ID instead.

Yes, but the ID is pretty long, hard to write clearly on small items.

Insider, what is the correct laundry mark?

DS would like to know about the cash he'll be bringing. Didn't know exactly what topic to put it under and since this topic is about what Basics are bringing I 'll put it here. The question is how is it secured till he can get to the Bank to deposit the remainder after BCT? Thanks...

you really don't have to bring that much... I don't remember how much they suggest but you really don't need more than that. it's basically just to buy cleaning supplies, shampoo, etc. if they run out. I think I only went to the cadet store twice during all of BCT.

In terms of securing the money, you have a small lock drawer in your desk that must be locked at all times. You can keep your money/identification/other important stuff locked up in there.

DD received an email from admissions on 3 Jun that states:

Attention appointees to the USAFA Class of 2018:

There was an error in the Instruction to Appointees:

Please write your FULL student ID number on all under garments.

Thank You,

Your Admissions Staff

Where on the garment is the marking supposed to be placed?

We put in on the inside, back. I don't think it really matters. The directions weren't specific.

As did I, and for the one by one and a half inch rule, I believe that doesn't apply to us as there is no way to make the marking that small with our ID.
