2016 USNA Mailbox Stalkers Club...

Right now must be a stressful time for the Enlisted Admissions Counselor. With one person working for all of us that were nominated, it is probably very overwhelming.

Lukespeople - question, obviously you have CO's and Military recommendations and SECNAV nominations. Did you also go Congressional route and get nomination from one of them?

I PCS'ed in July from Camp Pendleton to my current duty station and didn't get the offer to start my package until October. So by that time I was out of the range to get any MOC Noms, I was very rushed through the process (since I went on leave on 1 Dec.) I actually got it all finished from 15 Oct (First submittal) and 29 Nov (Secnav nom date) I lose a lot of sleep on hearing back from the men and women upstairs. I actually have my stats posted here if you wanted to compare!

This is 3rd time my son is applying so maybe 3rd time is charm. He is only 19 years old. He applied as a senior in high school, got a Congressional nomination, mega community service, AP classes, 2 part time jobs, honor roll all through high school, marching band, boxin and karate since age 4, etc. Before he got his rejection letter, he decided that since he wanted to be a USMC officer and not enlisted like his brother and sister were, but wanted to experience boot camp and being enlisted so he could be a better officer. went and enlisted in USMC Reserve. This way he could go to college while serving as his older brother did. The way Reserves are now, you are almost guaranteed of seeing some kind of action as his brother did. Plan was if USNA offer came through, he would not have to report and if it didn't he could go to boot camp. In meantime, he got his candidate number for following year. So process was started for last year. He graduated boot camp in October. Day of graduation he had a phone interview with Member of Congress, next day, with 1 Senator, the other a few days later on his 10 day leave.. He received Congressional nomination. Plan was he would be out of MOS school in early January and be able to start college. As with service, plans go awry and MOS school was delayed by a month and he missed last Spring semester. So while away he got paperwork in order, got recommedation from CO from his Reserve Unit and Congressional Rep, but since he was at school, technically he was not considered assigned to any unit yet and USNA suggested that he wait another year to have time to be evaluated at his unit. Also CFA was not completed since he was away for grueling 13 week boot camp. So 2nd rejection. Now things may start to fall in place. Received Meritorious Mast at MOS school, now a Lance Corporal, just completed 1st year of college on Deans list, SECNAV and Congressional nomination so we will see. He figured he would try one more time, opportunities still abound and with his determination he will see a commsion one way or another.

Thanks FutureMarineMom - so far working well. He will be 2 years into his 6 year contract in July, his unit ( he is field fire atillery) is only 45 minutes away, college is 10 minutes away so he can live at home now. Montgomery GI BIll helps with tuition and he gets his PT run in every morning at dawn with the Army ROTC at the college and is getting credit for it! Know it will be fine whatever this outcome is since the Marines also have programs for enlisted to commisioned and he could also try and move up the ranks in the meantime.

We are part of the mailbox stalking as well! My neighbor is a stay at home mom and she and our post lady are on the lookout for a hopeful BFE. My DS has nominations from out state Rep, and both of our state Senators plus the ROTC nom so we are hopeful. It is so stressful though. When your child has wanted something for 6 years and has worked so hard, you want nothing more than for them to get it. :)

Mulan50... What a determined young man!

If the admissions board wants to reward determination and perseverance, your son should get that appointment.

It sounds to me like although he would be disappointed if he does not get it, he will make his own path to success. Best of luck. Your boy sounds like a winner!

Maple Rock, lol, I wouldn't say my son will not be disappointed. He will be but will find a way. My kids were lucky in a way, no school sports per se but all have been active in karate since age 4, competing in and winning since they started. All plus husband are degreed black belts, oldest son has had a karate school since he was a senior in high school and was also a MCMap black belt instructor in USMC. The kids pitched in and taught and virtually kept school open during 1st son's tour in Iraq. They have lived by tenants of TKD which is adopted by other styles which are Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, Indomitable Spirit and Victory. Disappointment yes, but you carry on!

If he's not already, he should get in contact with an OSO and start an application for PLC. Active duty OCC (post-college OCS) spots are drying up fast.

Thanks Hurricane, he is looking at PLC program. We have a lot of friends who were commissioned through PLC Program. Thanks, again.
