2016 USNA Mailbox Stalkers Club...

I would guess that USNA 2016 is about half subscribed at this time, so hang tough!

I would guess that USNA 2016 is about half subscribed at this time, so hang tough!

When you say "subscribed" do you mean appointed or somehow subscribed to this forum? I'm hoping the former rather than the latter :).

1964BGO means that about half the class has been offered AND accepted their appointment. There are more offers that have already been extended, but candidates have not necessarily accepted the appointment at this time.

Can someone with good intel advise if there will be more waves of BFE's coming even though March is ending? 1964BGO, since you opined the class is half filled, do you know?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Probably not waves. Mostly dribbles at this point, if history repeats itself.

usna1985: Does your response mean that Admissions has made all its initial offers, and that future offers will be the result of these candidates declining offers?

This came from the USNA class of 2016 Facebook page- posted by a BGO. Seems there are still more appointments to come. I also suspect that some of the 430 who have not accepted may have been waiting on the USAFA. The AFA just sent out a bulk of appointments this week so this may lead to some response from those who have not yet- especially since the AFA gave then until April 15 to accept/decline... Not May 1 as typical. If looking at the numbers and projected class size, I would expect there are still more appointments to come. At least that is what I am choosing to believe to keep my sanity!

Latest stats from admissions 30MAR12 for the Class of 2016:

5275 - Candidates Applied (completed Apps)

565 - Offers of Appointment Accepted to USNA

430 - Fully Qualified Offers of Appointment to USNA

33 - Offers of Appointment Declined to USNA

93 - Offers of Appointment Accepted to NAPS

92 - Fully Qualified Offers of Appointment to NAPS

12 - Offers of Appointment Accepted to Foundation

24 - Foundation has Offered Sponsorship

9346 - Turned Down By USNA

The problem we are dealing with here is that we don't know USNA's target end strength for 2016 so the best we can do is guess at how many more offers may be forthcoming. I am seeing WL's (wait listing) appearing on my candidate roster for the first time in this cycle, along with a bundle of TU's (turndowns). Best wishes to all those still in the running.

565 - Offers of Appointment Accepted to USNA

430 - Fully Qualified Offers of Appointment to USNA

What's the difference in these two numbers. Does it mean that 430 of the 565 were candidates who were 3Q? Or is it the sum of both numbers that make up total appointments so far (995 out of a possible 1400?)

Whats left??!

Doesnt that mean there are 962 appointees going? If so, doesnt that leave roughly 38 offers of appointment left to give? there are some slates which havent been reviewed yet (or where none of the nominees have heard) like some texas slates and maryland slates- I know at least the MD-08 has heard nothing yet, or at least as of 3/28/2012.

if these numbers are correct (and I have no reason to doubt them) how many appointees are left? have there ever been very qualified slates with no slected nominees? also- I may be wrong about the 1000 number, so i'll also ask, how many students are expected to join the class of 2016?

It is helpful to see numbers. Looking at these numbers and the yield rate, I am guessing that 300 more offers are coming. Just a guess based on the numbers above. Thanks everyone. Nothing in the mail today....

I read it as 430 appointments outstanding, ie. mailed but no reply yet. We don't know what the Target class size is, but I would assume somewhere between 1000-1100 based on USMA Target of 1050 to which it was reduced this month from 1150. In any case it doesn't seem like a whole lot more appointments will be going out. I'm sure some number of those are reserved for slates that have not been reviewed yet. In any case, the number of remaining slots compared to the toto number of remaining 3Q is small.

thanks.

Thank you marine navymon and kinem. that was enlightening. but of course nothing will be as meaningful as the BFE... (or TWE) );

@stillwaiting....

The class of 2016 will have about 1,190, Latta said.

This is according to the Annapolis Capitol, as reported on March 5.

Based on the numbers and information above (which may or may not have changed), if ALL candidates who have been offered an appointment accept, there would be approximately, 200 more appointments.

BUT....

What we do not know if this number includes NAPSTERs. If this doesn't, then there are probably VERY FEW more appointments to give out (i.e. those that decline an appointment). NAPS graduating class size is normally between 200-250, 246 last year.

nicobanza,
A decision was made about a candidate from a neighboring MD district, so it is possible (not a guarantee) your district might have been reviewed.

I thought so too, since I saw appoinments for districts 3, 5 and 7 on the appointment thread, but when I emailed my MOC's office, they told me that they hadn't heard anything from USNA yet.

Again I suspect that many of those 430 who have yet to accept we're possibly waiting on the AFA appointments which just started rolling out. Also many of the ivy league schools (standford this Sunday) are just now notifying applicants. I expect that the next few weeks will result in a bulk of thos 430 either accepting or rejecting appointments, thus affecting how many more will be sent out. The 1190 that was stated in the Annapolis newspaper March 5 seems to may have included NAP and Foundation based on the number released yesterday.

My point of posting is to calm nerves and let people know that if you have not heard anything yet, this may be why. Seems the process is not the same as last year and is still not over. Again, just my opinion based on the information I have read.
I wish everyone still waiting the best of luck! Hang in there- it is not over until you get the TWE. Confirm those plan B options and keep stalking. That is what my DS is doing:thumb:

I am confused about people getting wait listed. The class would have to be full for that to happen?

Jus guessing but slates are full and they don't want to lose certain candidates yet. So if someone turns down an appointment later they can still offer acceptance to the candidate. The class isn't full yet.

Just back from spring break hoping for a BFE. DS rummaged through all the mail and nothing. Good news is no TWE I guess. Anyone still waiting from MN?
