DS just notified via his portal that he is on the 2018 waitlist from the EA1 board. Time for him to take a deep breath and patiently wait till early May. Any Waitlist statistics from previous years and the chances of a slot? How close to I day can he get the call? Thanks

Pretty close to R-Day. I think there were a couple in 2017 notified in June. Objee may have specifics if needed.

What happens if you have to confirm other colleges/SA's by May 1st and you don't hear back from USCGA until June???

It depends on the institution. For many, they will understand if you have a service academy appointment and they may refund your deposit. If you want it back, however, you have to ask.

I'd say you can't risk not starting school either way. Most folks I've read about go ahead and make plans for "Plan B", pay deposits, etc. Then if the call come in, great! If not, at least Plan B is ready to go.

My DD has been placed on the wait-list for the Scholars program. Does anyone (Objee perhaps) have any info on how the wait-list works? Specifically:

If wait-list candidates are not ranked, how are wait-listers selected to be moved from the wait-list to the Scholars program, as room becomes available in the program? First one to reply saying I want to be on the wait-list is first in line? Geographic representation? Luck of the draw?

If wait-list candidates are not ranked, why does DD's letter encourage sending transcript updates?

How many candidates are likely to be on the wait-list and what percentage of them (historically) are likely to be offered an appointment to the Scholars program?

Any info is appreciated as there doesn't seem to be much out there on the wait-list. DD is obviously very disappointed in not being appointed; but happy to still have a fighting chance at a prep-school slot. No doubt a large number of "We regret to inform you......" letters went out.

Wait list may be a bad name. A better term might be alternate pool. There is no ranking, but there's a re-evaluation as slots become open. That's why they would need updated transcripts. Remember, they are trying to build a class. There may be need for athletics, or for performing arts, or geographic or demographic diversity.

I had two classmates show up after R Day who had been wait listed. I think distance may have been a factor though.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds as if there is a reasonable chance to get the call right up to R day. Did not know there was a separate CGAS PREP list and waitlist. So I guess being on the 'Appointment Waitlist', he is not a candidate for a CGAS prep slot?

He is not a candidate for CGAS prep slot.. If he is waitlisted for an appointment then he is definitely not going to be considered for CGAS prep school.

DD was also offered a spot on the CGAS Waitlist in EA1. She sent an email to LT Herold as requested to remain on the list, but hasn't heard anything since. Should she be getting some sort of confirmation? She also requested her 1st semester transcripts to be sent to Admissions.

DS also confirmed his desire to remain on the waitlist for EA1. Shortly afterwards he received a confirmation email requesting an updated transcript.
Your DD may want to write back to confirm her transcripts were received and nothing further is required.
Hope this helps & that she's offered a spot!

Thanks for all the good wishes. They are appreciated. Our whole family is delighted, although it also doesn't seem quite real just yet - odd.

Does anyone know if the Scholars have an option between GMC and MMI, or does the CGA assign students to each location as they see fit?

Any current or former Scholars care to offer feedback on either institution or their experience in the Scholars program in general? Everything I have read has been quite positive about the preparation students got and how it ultimately made life at CGA easier and more productive.
