2019 Permit to Report (PTR) Packages?

Received just outside Annapolis on Friday. Kid accepted just after Easter if that helps. Good grief that is a pile of paper. Welcome to the government!
Thanks MDDADD. Still nothing in NoVa, but it's just a matter of time. Isn't the first time we've waited and it won't be the last - at least we know the outcome! :)

PTR arrived in South Dakota. Go figure. I thought it would be sometime next week for us.

PTR arrived today! DS done with exams Friday. This BFE (and I mean BFE!) will be his welcome home present! The paperwork and count down to I Day begins!

Organizing things like Juvat mentioned is a great idea and will help to get things in on time, the correct medium, and in the event (which I would argue is 50% chance) that USNA misplaces/doesn't receive one or more of the forms. I HIGHLY recommend that the parents should let your DS/DD do the work (and I don't mean filling out the form all by themselves, because there certainly are pieces of data or scheduling activities [i.e. vaccinations at doctor's office] they will need help from the parents -- but DS/DD should come to the parents, not the other way around). From this point forward, it is going to be up to them...they will not have mom/dad beside them at USNA helping them through every issues or "mission" that comes up. Hopefully most appointees are capable of doing this, but now is a good time to make sure they can accomplish a big, but relatively simple administrative task of getting all the information to the right place and on time.

I agree but man oh man when I saw all those papers my jaw dropped. This is going to take a lot of focus!!!

it has been said before on one of this threads but Welcome to the Gov't! this is just one of many rounds of paperwork your DS/DD will fill out and have to keep copies and track of. Just to share some helpful info...my DH who spent 23 yrs in the Navy as an Officer began his military career by making a copy of everything he had to do with medical, advancements, deployments, etc...and when he retired he pulled out that 3 ring binder and had his 23 yr life history right there at his finger tips so when he had to deal with all of the steps for retirement, he was ready. If your DS/DD begins now making a copy of everything and start that 3 ring binder now! Best of luck to all of you....hoping to see you all on IDay as we wait on the wait list.

I have a question about some of the documents they are to take with them. The packet says they need to bring their social security card and it was already talked about somewhere to bring their birth certificate just in case for I-day. Also we went ahead and ordered a passport. So do they keep all these documents with them at school? Is there somewhere safe for them to have them or do we take them back home with us? I guess since I have kept them locked away in a safe place for so long it makes me nervous for him to have them at school.

He won't need his passport. If they have confirmed his US Citizenship then they won't need his birth certificate either, although you should have it with you just in case (IMHO). His paperwork, etc. will be safe. Don't worry!

Notarized copies of hard to replace docs are good. Keep the passport/if they need for OCONUS cruise they will process a special issue passport toward the end of plebe year.

As noted above, paperwork is the bane of the military. For parents: help your DS/DD get docs ready then let him/her handle. From now on, your child is responsible for complying w/all the documentation requirements the USN (and maybe later the USMC) will throw at them. Obtaining them, keeping them, knowing which ones are needed when, etc. They will figure it out -- upperclass will help them. Start them on the road . . . then let them drive!

They have a lock box/ lockable drawer in their room for passports, valuables, etc. We kept the birth certificate with us during I-day. They will contact you if they need it. We brought passport with us for PPW and gave it to them then. They may need it for spring break. USNA will only issue them one if its for government travel, not for personal use.

BTW, PTR arrived yesterday. Report time: 0630! Good times.

Thank you! That makes me feel a lot better. I was just worried everything would be out in the open. Sorry, just had a neurotic mom moment yesterday watching my son go through ALL that paperwork! Probably won't be my last either! :)

Most travel done at the academy is done on a civilian (blue) passport. I would recomend bring the passport, or at least getting it during PPW. It is now required for all mids at the academy to have a passport, so having it on hand makes the process a lot easier.

DS took his passport on Iday. Highly recommend you have an extra copy of EVERYTHING in PTR packet. In previous years parents posted that the academy lost their copy of shot records and a plebe had to get all shots again.

PTR arrived yesterday in Northern Virginia. DS returns home from college to the pile, unless he goes against my advice and asks that we send it on to him while he finishes up the semester. I'm hoping it won't be too daunting for him after completing the NROTC forms last year. I really appreciate Juvat's organization advice and Navymom19's 3-ring binder advice and will pass on to DS. Breaking it down like Juvat recommends makes the task of getting it done more manageable.

The only thing I plan to forward to DS at college is the information about validating classes. I figure he can complete that while the information related to his college classes is readily available and fresh in his head. If he agrees to let me get things rolling on the shot record and specs form, I'll get that started. otherwise, he digs in May 7 when he gets home.

DS's PTR arrived yesterday. 7am report. Anyone know if there is any rhyme or reason to report times? Location? Alphabet? Not that it matters, but he is on some chat board/ site with other '19 appointees and he seems to be the earliest of the plebes he has talked to so far. I say the earlier the better. More of a chance for him to get through the stations with an opportunity for food at some point. I would imagine it can become quite the goat rodeo (sorry Bill ;) ) the later it gets.

There must be some pattern to the report times but we didn't figure it out last year. DS was 06:30 report time....they opened the doors and started sucking them in to Alumni at 06:20 or so. Although there is nothing you can do about report time, I will say that DS seemed to be quite relaxed when we saw him after the swearing in. He managed to eat and get his room squared away with his NAPS & prior enlisted roommate. The first letter we got made it clear that life was much busier by the next morning!

DS got his PTR package yesterday as well. 6:30 report time. So what does a Plebe parent do at 0630 after dropping off?
