DS began completing his application for the Class of 2021. It appears that there is a portion of the application doesn't open until July, including the request of his teachers. Is this correct that that portion of the application process isnt't available yet for completion?

USMA portal will be open July 1st at the earliest to allow teachers LORs input and other required docs.

Yes, unless he went to SLE, then the application opens up earlier.

The full application only opens to those who are qualified to move on in the application process.

I just checked my son's portal. He attended week 1 of SLE, passed the CFA and his portal states

    Initial Evaluation Pending ---
** This evaluation will not begin until approximately July 1, 2016 at the earliest for most candidates to USMA 2021.**

He received an official letter from USNA, USAFA and USMA as an official candidate. After attending SLE, he is fully committed to USMA. Are people able to access the application?

Thanks! He is at an engineering camp all week or he would be the one asking. :)

USNA and USAFA are both open for him. He wasn't concerned before he left but being as it is open for some people, he will be now.

My DS is still waiting for USNA and USAFA to open the portal completely as an official candidate. Are you certain on this for your DS ?

Typo. Should be USMA, USNA is already open for DS.

He is also waiting on USMA. Both the other 2 are open. He turned down USNA SS for Boy's State as we are thinking he has a color deficiency which USNA will not typically waiver. He has never been diagnosed formally. We haven't sent official ACT scores yet either. I wonder if that is the issue? He has a 31C with a 33M but was hoping to increase his composite and math score.

Did your son attend SLE Tex?

My son loved the experience as well. Every other college setting has paled in comparison. The roller coaster ride is beginning. It's an exciting time.

His aren't! He still shows registered. He stayed up till 1am est on Monday night. He took it in April and got them the first day. The waiting stinks! He feels he did well but sometimes that is not good. I've been there. Ha!

Hope the scores were happy dance scores!

Boy, as I read this thread only days before dropping my son off at West Point to begin his plebe year with the class of 2020, and have such mixed emotions of both pride and sadness steming from knowing how much I will miss my best friend, I can't believe how fast this process goes.

My son only decided to apply to the academies at the end of his Junior years in HS, and we had no idea what it took to earn an appointment. He applied to USMA, USAFA and USNA , and was admitted to both USMA and USAFA, then eliminated USNA after accepting at USMA (he was wait listed at USNA, but he wanted USMA anyway). The process goes and goes, but before you know it you are at the point of dropping your child off at a military academy.

From this parents perspective, which is shared by my wife, after we visited USNA and USMA several times, and spoke to many people from each academy, West Point left us with the best feeling by far, and my son felt the same way. They want great kids there, and they want them to do well. The admissions people are top notch, and it is hard to go there and leave without a tremendous sensation.

My son went through all of the obstacles, and we were there with him during much of the process, ACT /SAT, CFA, MOC applications, essays, interviews, teacher evaluations and recommendations, and everything else. There is a method to successfully navigating all of this, and your children and you will figure it out. Lots of frustration, but also little victories along the way. If anyone has questions, I m delighted to help if I can. Frankly, I kneed a distraction, as I am trying hard not to think about missing my son. Tough moment.

    Good luck to all.

Hug that sweetie pie extra. My son has been gone for all but a few days since the end of May. He is such a sunshine in my life I can't imagine him not being here next year. We are beginning this journey to adulthood and I wish he was back in his Osh Kosh denim overalls.

I read that R day is a few days away. Enjoy all the extra with your son. It's such an honor and privilege to serve.

My sons' ACT scores were posted today, all except the writing. I read scores are posted at midnight daily.

Unless things have changed recently, ACT will only release scores on Tuesdays and Fridays.

That must mean he is very happy with his scores. As you will hear on this forum a lot, never be satisfied unless he got a 36. Actually, unless you are in a very competitive district, a 33-34 ACT would put most people in a decent comfort zone.
