About 12 hours left now before the road trip commences! DH, DS #s 5 & 6, and I are taking DS #4 to NMMI to see him off as he begins his 1 year as a USNA Foundation sponsored prep. Cincinnati to Roswell, NM here we come! No matter how many times we parents have made an I-Day (USNA in 2005), Freshman Move-In Day (U of Illinois 2002 and OSU 2010), Matriculation Day (NMMI 2012) journey (whatever “New Phase” the respective kid is launching into is called), the hours before the launch still brings a truckload of emotions right to the surface. As the Mom, the emotions are mostly accompanied by tears of joy, pride, impending loss, recognition that everything will be changed forever. Again! And now we’re really spread all over the place – New Mexico; Quantico, VA (PLC Increment 2); Camp Lejeune, North Carolina (soon to be Hawaii for 3 years); Chicago; and here, Cincinnati. It’s a crazy, great life and now I’m going to go wipe my face off and pack!

Drive safely. If you need a break along the way, Oklahoma City is worthwhile. The national memorial on the site of the Alfred Murrah building is moving. Also, the cowboy & western heritage museum is great.

    a small world!!!

Oh my goodness... what a small world we live in!! Meeting you and your wife and DS by chance like that on the NMMI Post, talking in the hallway outside the Cadet Store while our sons :shake:were being issued their gear and then shortly after parting ways only knowing each other's first names and a little about our respective sons' journeys, to finding this message on the Forums upon our return home!!! Crazy wonderful!! It was an amazing trip to Roswell and back again to Cincinnati - what an incredible country we live in - the "bigness" of everything...the land, the sky, people's kindnesses and BIG temperatures to boot! 113 degrees is the highest reading we had on our dashboard thermometer somewhere in Oklahoma. We did see the wildfire Thursday night west of Oklahoma CIty as we traveled by El Reno...terrible. We have received some text messages from our newly matriculated DS - all seems well during this phase - I believe phones will be taken away after this phase is over - Tuesday maybe? Anyway, just a shout out to the Forum Creators and Moderators - THANK YOU - the Forums allowed a connection to be made between a couple of families and cadets heading into their military lives! Awesome!!!:shake:
