2nd board results

Actually two pepto bottles in and I blame Clarkson for this. Today has been interesting to say the least. Good luck to everyone.

Please note the folks at CC are doing the inputting on all of the status updates.... In addition to that they are...
1) Taking care of the candidates that were boarded on the first board ( including but not limited to medical issues, medical waivers, moral/admin. waivers)
2) CULP and other programs for current ROTC members.
3) Medical waivers for current ROTC members wanting to go to AA or Airborne schools
4) Pay issues for current ROTC members including but not limited to book money, stipends, scholarship payments.
5) Keep in mind they also are dealing with LDAC being moved from Washington the Ft. Knox
:

Just to clarify...the scholarship processors only work on scholarship applications. They do not deal with 2-5 on Sheriff's list. There are other sections at CC (usually less well manned than scholarship processing) that deal with Pay, CULP, Cadet Actions...

That doesn't mean they aren't busy, and working as fast as they can.

Some food for thought while we wait-
1269 applicants were boarded second round
675 applicants should receive offers
All of them will receive an offer to 1 of their top three choices

Don't know when the emails will start flowing, but I'm sure someone will let us know. I'll let you all know when the ROOs are weapons free...which means we have permission to contact our winners.

Over 50%, not bad.

If you guy really want to see what stress was, go back and look at the thread for Jan. 2011,, it took over 2 months for the results to be posted for that board, this is nothing.

Clarkson, Do you know how many were boarded at the 1st board and received offers? I know everyone threw around 250 but curious what you see.

Is 1269 the number that was on the total OML or is that just a number the 2nd board looked over?

I have been away from my computer all day -- imagine my surprise to see this 11-page thread. :shake:

DS's status is still "Boarded." Is it a good sign that there is a message on our answering machine from 2:42 pm today from someone in the AROTC department at his #3 listed school? The message is that this person wants to followup with DS on the 4 yr scholarship he applied for and talk to him.

I remember reading that scholarships are awarded by one committee, then sent to another committee for school selection. Based on the above message we received, it sounds like #3 school was given the info immediately and is following up to find out DS's interest. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Many thanks, Clarkson!:thumb:

Yes, but that percentage would only be for those boarded in the 2nd round - but if you include those applicants from the 1st round that are on the OML, I believe the number would come down to about 20-25%.

Forgot to add, a big thanks to Clarkson for keeping us posted. We appreciate it!

My kid got a call from his #4 listed school several weeks ago. (It was at #4 not because he didn't want to go there as much as the top three, but because it was a cheaper, in state school.) They asked how strongly he felt about leaving that school at #4. They went onto "encourage" him to kick it up to top three. He took their advice. A few weeks later, we visited the school and spoke with the gentleman that called. He certainly encouraged my kid to attend college there, and went on to tell him about the campus based scholarships (in the event he didn't get a national scholarship). So... I think it's hard to say if he was just being heavily recruited by one ROTC Bn, or if an ROTC program is actually planning to offer him a scholarship. Time will tell.

ABF,
Good to know. The timing of the phone call seems coincidental with Clarkson's original post re. the 2nd board releasing info. DS did visit the school back in July for an honors day, but we didn't meet with anyone from the AROTC department. He has applied and been accepted, plus admitted to the Honors College. It's not an in-state school, but in a neighboring state where a lot of kids from our area go. Guess we'll find out in the next day or two...

I took it to mean the total number of applications that were boarded for the second board. In other words, I think it included the leftovers from the 1st board, plus the new applications that came in in time for the 2nd board.

I don't think so, the numbers would be way off. From what Clarkson indicated in an earlier thread, roughly 2000 were seen by the first board, with about 260 offers. So the "leftovers" from the first board would be about 1740. This "leftover" number alone is more than what Clarkson said was boarded for the second board - 1269.

Oooh, yeah, that would make sense. If that's the case, I wonder why he worded it that way?

On the UNG AROTC scholarship page, it says around 11,000 students applied, 5,000 became boarded, and 2,500 were awarded either a 4 year or 3 year AD scholarship for all boards. So total, about 50% of board-qualified students earn a scholarship.

I think he worded it correctly. "Boarded" means that the applicant is being scored by the board of PMSs. My DD was already "Boarded" by the first board, so she is on the OML; in other words, she was not "Boarded" at the second board - her application wasn't reviewed again as it was already scored by the first board.

Oh, I get it! I'm slow, but I do catch on! :shake: So, if my math is right, I'm coming up with about a 22.4% chance of receiving an award on the 2nd board (675/(1740+1269)). Does that sound about right to you?

When the applicants that are not selected during the first board they are indeed placed on an OML. Once the applicants that complete their applications for the second board (those that did not make the deadline for the first board) they are reviewed and placed on the same OML. These applicants are placed on the existing OML based on their scores resulting in a new OML that now includes the applicants from both the first and second board deadlines. Scholarships from the second board are awarded based on new OML.

From Clarkson's post it sounds like the number of awards he mentioned are based off the new OML. Surprisingly, the largest OML occurs on the final board.

You would be surprised just how many applicants are awarded scholarships that meet just the final board. Since they are placed on the existing OML they can easily be placed at the top of the list based on their scores, and those that were toward the top of the previous OML may find that they have dropped way down after the new applicants are added.

Many will wait until they have been admitted to their college choices before finalizing their application. Applying late can have an effect on school selections, some schools may have met their quotas by the third board.
