2nd board waiting

Hopefully I didn't miss this earlier but with AROTC some are getting multiple schools to choose from but are they mostly receive only one

My understanding is there have been 3 on the first board, so they will give up to 3, however as more spots are taken, when a scholarship is awarded, there might not be spots at 3 of the schools on an applicants list, that is why there might be less offered. I believe that with NROTC there is always only one.

Does anyone know if there will be any delay in the 2nd board meeting next week due to the winter storm?

Does anyone know if there will be any delay in the 2nd board meeting next week due to the winter storm?

It's not snowing at Ft. Knox, cold but no snow. It will depend more on where the Board Members are coming from and what flight delays there are, and nobody can really predict how that will play out right now.

Is there any way to find out if it ends up being delayed? If it does, I hope it won't delay the results...

I've been reading this forum for more than a year (how truly helpful it has been!) and now it's my DS's turn to wait for board results.

My son's status still states "Board Ready" instead of "Boarded." He had everything finished by January 5. I'm wondering if there is a delay due to the storm in other areas, as Jcleppe suggested.

The board is meeting this week, so don't expect statuses to change until the board is over.

Just checked and found that DS's status has been changed from "Board Ready" to "Boarded".
"Board Ready" since Dec. It looks like they are working on it. Will wait until the board is over as clarksonarmy said.
Best of luck to you all applicants and of course their parents too.

Mine is now Boarded

I too applied for an AROTC scholarship for the January Board. It seems that my portal has been updated to "Boarded". Does this mean I did not receive the scholarship, or will they notify me in a couple of days when the board is completely finished? I am very worried and have a thinking that I was put off to the side because I am not strong enough for the scholarship. Thank you for any help that can be offered!

It sill be longer than a few days I am afraid. Being boarded simply means you have been reviewed, given a score, and put on the Order of Merit List. Typically it will be a month before you know anything else, but "a month" is a loose estimate. You will see on here when winners are starting to be notified. And if you do not get one this round there is still a chance in March. Don't second guess quite yet, you have done your part now it is time to just wait it out.

My DS wanted to change one of his schools for the Navy Board that happened same time as 2nd AROTC board and they told him it was fine if he got an offer to change. I know Army you can change but have to jump through some hoops would think would be a bit harder for Navy since there are fewer schools for them to disperse applicants among. The waiting for scholarship boards is so maddening especially when have colleges sending "You need to send the non-refundable reservation " My be prepared, and get it done and have everything squared away OCD is not doing well not to mention the more time we have to talk about the schools the harder it is to have a clear best option. In some ways I wish he had been one of those kids that was set on a dream school for years. His only goal is to have a military career. I have seen some people post things like " looking at plan C " Are people waiting like us for the school's financial Aid packets and Board responses to make a choice or has a definitive school been selected and the plan options been more about how to pay for that one or two must be it schools? Since we are all going slowly insane waiting what are everyone's plans creation processes, pros/cons lists, best or worst college visit moments, anyone get other financial aid packets that have swayed school decision. Have any applied to non ROTC schools that a scholarship would be worth risk of not getting a commission/slot at OCS?

keyzcat, you bring up many interesting points, My DD also has not had a dream school. I think this can work in a student's favor depending on how they handle that. We have paid one non refundable deposit and even a housing deposit to our DD's first choice school. The reason is because she chose her top school because it is the most affordable of the schools she listed due to the merit award she received there and will be the school she attends if she does not receive a scholarship. To be honest because she didn't have a dream school and si liar to your son just wants to complete her dreams, which for her includes becoming a nurse and being an Army Officer, she would be happy with all the schools she chose, however, she is a frugal kid and really wanted to know that no matter what the outcome of the scholarship that she had an option that was affordable and could pursue her career path no matter what. Good luck to you and your son as you wait, hopefully he will have good news very soon!

It's funny that that is the exact reason we are in limbo because he has Merit 50% off or a $ value that basically covers 50% of the cost when combined with the in-state rate 'scholarship' that they also offered for most of the schools. We meet the EDC 0 which gives the full Pell if he doesn't get the ROTC. That also can help to get the needs based scholarships which from the calls to Financial aid offices they are not sending out FA packets till March 1. A few schools are in the no way land if the ROTC and/or need based scholarships do not come in as I do not want him to have any debt financing. If he goes out of state he is giving up $110 a credit hour in Bright Futures money. So we are mostly in the waiting for the Financial aid packets with the need based coverage to know which will endure no debt financing. I just wished they would send out the need based offers as soon as you send in your FASFA instead of waiting till March 1 deadline for people to send in their FASFA but some may be because they have to due order of need style lists.
He then has the question of does he want to do ECP and then risk some 4yr schools ROTC programs not wanting him because they have had negative experiences with ECPs in the past. And long term ECP or not the guarantee of an Active Duty slot (Army) if you go to a Senior Military College as well as some schools are only AROTC but he is trying for both NROTC and AROTC. He also has one school that is new this year and was offering full rides for NSHSS students it isn't even on the FASFA list so still not sure how that part is going to work but if choosing that one then would be having to go enlisted if doesn't get selected for OCS or have to possibly have to get into debt financing of a MA so he can then apply for the Health scholarship to get his PhD in Psychology so would be a different path than the planned of being a counselor in service while getting the MA and PhD and then able to move from Counselor to Psychologist to Psychiatrist. Not only is it economically preferable that he be able to do that path in service but career wise working with sailors/soldiers from the start is allowing him to do what he wants in helping soldiers/sailors come home , work through the terrors they have faced in combat or because of MST. The ability and honor of caring for our service men and women can never be beaten by a classroom. You also can't save lives, help with transition for those that have lose of limb/s, reunite families with transition issues, help children understand why their parent/s are not able to be home with them, help survivors understand that it is okay to be a survivor, and even the same life issues everyone has. My DS is like your daughter; they just have a desire to help and heal mind and body of the REAL heroes and role models, our service men and women. The good part is that They have options for still going in those careers if do not get the ROTC scholarship. Just have to keep holding our breath till those final financial Aid and scholarship offers are in and the best option is found. Also been seeking out all the non school specific scholarships he can apply for he had about 20 that are for Native Americans only a few are more than $1500 so every one counts.

It is definitely complicated, our strategy was to simply pick the best option she would go to if something does not work out. For example if she did not pass the medical exam or any other unforseen complication she would still go to college. If scholarship options makes another option better, then walking away from the nonrefundable deposits from one school would be okay, because she would be only going somewhere else because it makes better financial sense.

DS received e-mail first, then checked website and it was updated, then received a letter about a week later.
