    Hi all,
Wanted to know if those who have been appointed already all received a 3 Q notification. And if you do receive a 3Q notification, how are you notified?(mail, email, MOC, etc.)

You must be 3 Q'd to receive an appointment to West Point. Some have stated that they were notified by snail mail, portal or never heard at all before that BFE arrived. It really depends on your RC and how they handle their region. It truly is different for each. Hang in there and best of luck to you! The waiting is brutal.

    Appointment

You must be medically qualified (with waivers if necessary), but not 3Q. I know of people who were not academically qualified who got in (recruited athletes/minorities, people who got Letters of attendance from USMAPS etc...). I'm sure at least a few people have also gotten waivers for CFA. I don't think there are any absolutes except for the nomination requirement (EVERYTHING is waiverable if they want you).

DD got her 3Q letter via the portal.

    David Robinson

    A case in point:

Robinson was 6 ft 8 in when he was admitted to the Naval Academy, two inches above the height limit, but received a waiver from the Superintendent of the Academy. Robinson considered leaving the academy after his second year, before incurring an obligation to serve in active duty. He decided to stay after discussing with the Superintendent the likelihood that his height would prevent serving at sea as an unrestricted line officer, hurting his naval career, and might make it impossible for him to be commissioned at all. As a compromise, Secretary of the Navy John Lehman placed Robinson in a program for training civil engineers for the Naval Reserves that reduced his active-duty obligation to two years.

Navy "cheats" like this more than West Point, but things happen. BTW - Robinson is one of the greatest advertisements for USNA, and a great person, not his fault that others bent the rules.

Being Medically qualified is one of the Q's in 3Q'd - Academically, Medically (DoDMERB) and Physically (CFA).

They probably went to USMAPS as you must be academically disqualified to go to USMAPS, so therefore you will not be 3Q'd. Everyone else must be 3Q'd to get an appointment, even recruited athletes and URMs, unless they go to USMAPS.

I think Wiki got this wrong.
As I recall, Robinson was within the height requirements when he entered USNA, but he hit a growth spurt while there to a height which was great for USNA basketball but challenged whether he could serve in the Navy.

I believe Wiki has the right height. The Navy and others use the 6'4" number. Just using an example. Will not swear on anything. No Biggie

Agree - no biggie. It's just that I remember when this happened and my memory disagrees with Wiki. But maybe I don't remember it accurately since I was only 2 at the time

You must be found qualified by the Admissions Board to receive an appointment. Qualification is another step after receiving a nomination. Luckily, I received my 3Q letter a day after my principal nomination was received on my portal.

    If I may,

A candidate must be fully qualified, or given wavier(s), have a nomination, before receiving an appointment.

Qualification can occur before receiving a nomination.

...and is independent of receiving a nomination. All pieces to the puzzle.
