The CO was pretty cool, but I think she might be leaving. I don't know about the upperclassmen, but their plebes seemed like they didn't like eachother very much and they were cliquey. They didn't hate eachother they just weren't as close as some companies, but they were closer than others.

I dragged with the 30th company form CWV. They are a pretty chill group. The upperclassmen I met were interesting. Some were friendly while one of them threatened to make my life miserable. The plebes were pessimistic like most plebes but they all helped each other out.

The 30th Company stays on the 8th Floor (I forgot which wing) so they said that most of time it was pretty chill.

    It's 8th Wing. I'm sure a current mid can tell us what deck(s). Ain't no floors there...

There are eight wings, four on each side of Bancroft Hall. 7th and 8th wings are the newest, and farthest, from the academic buildings. Back when Moses took his first cruise down the Nile, there were just 6 wings.

Some of you may be acquainted with an old, black & white movie called "Shipmates Forever". It is a 1935 movie that has kind of a corny plot but most of it was filmed at the Naval Academy - even inside Bancroft Hall. Apparently, the Naval Academy cooperated greatly with the filming of this movie. The movie is priceless with its old scenes of the Yard. Those of you who have great familiarity with the modern day Naval Academy will find this fascinating.

Also, Plebe Summer was run exclusively by officers, not midshipmen. The Plebes were first confronted with the upperclassmen when the academic year began.

I went through the entire movie and extracted only those scenes which featured the Naval Academy. It appears that there were only 4 wings to Bancroft Hall at the time. I also embedded many notes.

    Enjoy!

    ^^^^^^^ According to the 'official USNA history' ( http://www.usna.edu/VirtualTour/150years/homepage.htm ), Wings 1 & 2 were completed in 1906, 3 & 4 in 1917, 5 & 6 in 1941, and 7 & 8 in 1961.

I have a problem with this in that 1 & 2 seem much newer than the original part of Bancroft. Perhaps they changed the numbering system and 1 & 2 became 3 & 4 after the 'new' wings were completed?

So, when Noah got underway, there may not have been any wings at all, just the main part of Bancroft. Moses, at 6 wings was definitely a pollywog. Perhaps someone can enlighten us as to exactly how it evolved.

1 and 2 were probably 3 and 4, and the two new 1 and 2... its like a tongue twister. And 30 lives on 8-4, top deck, farther from anything than anyone wants to be. If the bell rings you're already late for class, despite the fact that I could leave my room 5 minutes after it rings and be on time from 3-4. BUT 30 can get away with murder. And I'm sure they've tried.

The OOD never made it to 8-4 on his morning rounds and if he did, by the time he got there, everyone knew he was coming.

    Great access to Gate 'O'.

And female compainionship could be had by utilizing the back stairwell. Very isolated.

Hahahahahahaha, all very true, back to the murder I was talking about.

And yes now good access to gate 1.

The comment about the ladies, very true I'm assuming and convenient. Things of that sort didn't happen much in 5. Not dirty enough. Too snitchy.

Yes, loved the clips and got goose bumps when "Anchors" music came on. That and the Navy hymn always get to me.

Zaph! I got a good laugh out of that. How did you know that I don't really do laundry and my idea of a home cooked meal is taking the family to the Olive Garden???? :shake: Maybe my son will have it better at the academy! When asked what meal he will miss most, my son said the Outback!

"Doing laundry" is a relative phrase. They throw it in a bag and laundry service boils it and then the bag comes back. Everything takes on a grey tinge. Not quite Battleship Grey but grey. Bag gets a hole in it and some items do not come back.

I was going to comment when Noah had the Ark out for Sea Trials, perhaps wings were fewer or there was a different numbering system, but Mongo beat me to it. This is all written down somewhere. The PWC officer was a quarters neighbor on Worden Field, and he told me there were collections of photos, plans and log books of all the projects on the Yard since papyrus. (no, he didn't say papyrus, but it seemed to fit with Moses and Noah):shake:
