I wanted to know who signed up for this date, so that maybe we could get to know each other a bit mor before the actual date comes.

Don't worry about knowing people beforehand. You will have plenty of time to get to know people around you

Agreed! You meet lots of cool people there and become very close very quickly!

I'm also going to session 2. Super Excited, and I can't wait to go to the air field.

Don't be nervous! You'll have a really great time, I promise! The cadre are very nice and friendly, and it is likely the other kids in your element will be as well! If you have any questions on what to expect or anything like that, I went last year and would be happy to help you out! My biggest advice: DON'T fall asleep during one of the briefings (which was super hard not to do; you don't get a whole lot of sleep). It's super awkward to wake up to a Major in a flight suit tapping you on the shoulder! (Happened to the kid in front of me!)

Bailey, do the girls have to wear their hair up during USAFSS?

For the most part, no. You can wear hear down, makeup, jewelry, etc. The only time they made us put it up was for Dollie for a Day, and they weren't consistent with making us keep it that way throughout the day. So my recommendation would be to maybe put it up into a bun for Doolie for a Day just in case, but they might not make you keep it that way the whole time. Oh, here's one piece of unsolicited advice: if you hear rumor of what time they are planning to wake you up on Doolie for a Day, they will most likely wake you up half an hour earlier! We were all set to wake up half an hour earlier than when they were gonna get us up, and just as our phones went off to wake us, the cadre were there kicking and screaming at out door haha! Then we found ourselves outside in the hall five mins later doing PT before we could use the restroom or brush our teeth or anything, so if you want any time for that, I would try waking up as early as possible. Oh, and on Doolie for a Day, DON'T go anywhere alone without a wingman (I learned that the hard way lol!). Haha, sorry I know you just asked about the hair. I just thought I'd include a couple more things I wish I would have known going in haha!

Thanks for the info Bailey. Any other tips you can give would be great. BTW, what is a wingman? Is that the same as a "scout buddy", or in other words, never go anywhere alone kinda thing? Another question I just thought of, is do they supply a hat or at least let you wear a hat when you are outside? And what about sunglasses? We live in AZ and they are a must when outside, so kind of used to those things, not to mention my DD is as pale as they come and very light eyes.

I think wingman is the AF version of "battle buddy". You have their back and they have yours. You never leave their side and vice versa. They don't supply a hat, but I don't think they would have a problem with you wearing it. Same with shades, you should be just fine. I would definitely recommend sun screen. My poor red headed friend got sooooo fried and it wasn't fun!She should be prepared to have fun but be super tired! She'll get very little sleep and staying awake during briefings was extremely difficult! Let me know if you have any other questions!
