1) Does West Point give you the weekends off? How about holidays? Like is there no classes/training on weekends?

2) Can you go on Facebook or any social websites while at West Point?

1) No, there are no classes on the weekends/holidays at least for most people. You get a few days off for Thanksgiving, about 2 weeks for Christmas, about week for Spring Break and at least 2 weeks off in the summer. As for weekends, your privileges as to where you can go on the weekends will increase with each year.

2) During the academic year, yes, you can go on FB and the like. Plebes and Yuks are technically not allowed to go on such websites during Mandatory Evening Study Period however.

1) West Point does not schedule classes on the weekends (exception: we did have Saturday classes once last year). However, there often other activities that cadets must sometimes partcipate in on Saturdays (parades, football games, training events).

Just to give you an idea, here's what the last couple weekends have been (don't remember exact order):

- Football game (all cadets)
- No mandatory activities
- 4 hour training event for cadets in the 1st reg, APFT for all the firsties
- SAMI (inspection, all cadets)

During 2nd semester, there are no football games, but there are events like the Special Olympics, Walk for Life, and Sandhurst which can be mandatory.

2) Yes, you can have facebook. Some companies will make rules that plebes cannot use facebook during the week, but those rules are unenforceable.

1.) Yes and no on the weekend from what I saw. You still get up really early on saturday, but nothing on sunday. If I'm not mistaken there is also no classes on the weekends.

2.) Lol cadets at WP are still college kids. Sitting in on an advanced math class during my visit, I'd dare say almost 3/4 of the class was checking FB. WP gives you a laptop so the temptation is definitely there.

from what i understand, on most weekends cadets have walking privileges. they can walk any where on campus such as the px and commissary but cannot go anywhere else. they are also given a land line in their room and can use that phone unlimitedly.

Would the landline use be charged off the cadet's pay? Would you happen to know if they charge long-distance as well?

There is no charge for the land line or the long distance calls.

Usually Sunday's do not have duties as a plebe, but you may still be busy if you are on a club team, etc. It's also the best time to get ahead of your homework. DS basically does not rest on Sunday until he has his homework & projects done at least thru Wed.

Saturdays vary. There is a schedule (A weekends, B Weekends, etc) that make the difference. From memory there are three different saturdays with one of them being free.

On one of them you will be busy drilling in the morning unless at corps squad club team competition or practice.

You will be expected to attend home football games unless off at competition or practice.

Some Sat's will have parades, which you will need to participate in unless excused. (But may still be pressganged into attending).

SAMI is another Sat AM killer. :) And if you fail it, you get to retake it another Saturday.

Sat afternoons normally free unless there is a home game or other mandantory spirit event.

Think I read somewhere about 1/3 of your Saturday's will be free.

My understanding on the landline is that it is deducted from pay, so there is no reason not to use it. And most barracks have poor cell coverage. It does come with unlimited long distance. I want to say it's a $20 charge, but you never see it as it's deducted prior. All you see is the $225 per month paycheck leftover. Enough for pizzas on the weekend and other small expenses.

Based on observation, most FB activity takes place during enforced study period (each weeknight) or occasionally in class gaps during the day. You'll also have "drops" when a class does not meet occasionally.
