A few questions

Hello,
I am a candidate for USMA 2020. I have a LOE, a presidential nomination, a congressional nomination, and am 3Q'd.

My main questions are about my LOE. How common is it to receive a LOE? Will a LOE help me significantly with admissions?

Also, I believe this may have already been said in a previous thread, but when should I expect to receive a decision?

Any insight provided would be greatly appreciated

Well an LOE is a good letter because it means that admissions thinks that you are competitive and thinks you should finish your application. The LOE was also made to let competitive candidates without a LOA or appointment visit so it's a good sign but I wouldn't dig too deep into it. As far as the baring of the LOE on your app, I am going to let someone else answer. It has some sort of effect in a sense or they wouldn't use it but I'm not sure to what degree it is.

As far as an appointment, most hear next year some get it as early as December but most around Feb. - April. Nothing surprises me anymore with appointments though because I've seen kids without an LOA and aren't recruited athletes or necesarrily "top notch" but still competitive get appointments early. It depends on your nomination in some cases and a lot of other factors. But don't expect anything early in this process because the waiting will kill you.

@Delilah a LOE is a letter of encouragement that is given to competitive candidates that USMA wants that encourages them to finish their application and it also allows the candidate to have an overnight visit.

The pearl regarding a LOE that has not been mentioned. Towards the end of your experience you do get a chance to meet with an admissions rep to review your file. At this time ask all the questions you can on how to improve your chances. If it is feasible take advantage of the opportunity.
