I finished my CFA today (which was the last part of my application). I don't know how my scores are really. I've seen a lot of people with some really high numbers (maxing out). I got:
basketball: 72
pull-ups: 4
shuttle: 10.25
sit-ups: 45
pushups: 30
miles: 6:06
I'm a guy. I am going to start training specifically to retake this once my cross country season ends this thursday (nov 5). Does anyone know how low these are?

Also, I'm going to be attending a CVW November 12-14. Does anyone know how cold the weather is out there and whether it has been rainy much. Also, I am planning on wearing cacky pants and a blue polo, is this fine? I was planning to bring a backpack for carrying around my books (i'll probably be bringing homework) and information. I having been using a bag around my school that says "NAVY ROTC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM." is this a bad idea? Also, is the physical training on Saturday morning really tough?

Lastly, I have received a presidential nomination because of my parents' services. I read somewhere that they give out presidential's to everyone who applies and qualifies for it. Is this true? Also, How long does it usually senators/congress to receive/respond to packets that have been mailed out.

Khaki pants and a blue polo sound fine. For weather information, go to weather.com or watch the weather channel before you go, as the weather is apt to change from day to day in Annapolis (and everywhere else). I would leave the embroidered Navy backpack at home. Saturday Morning Training usually isn't that hard, so do it if they'll let you.

Presidential nom does indeed go to everyone who qualifies. However, only 100 or so of those are actually used to issue appointments. In other words, not everyone who gets the nom gets an appointment with it! Apply for every other possible source!

MOC's often do not announce their slates of nominees until nearly the deadline, nearly January 31. If they are interviewing, that usually begins in earnest in November.

Good luck!

I wouldn't bring the bag.

The SMT (Saturday Morning Training) is not usually tough. May range from a run and a briefing, to some sort of sport play, to obstacle course, swimming, etc. They are not going to expect you to be able to do what they are doing if it is tough. But I am sure an effort on your part would be appropriate!

Thanks. I had a feeling that the backpack would be better left at home, but wanted to make sure. I hadn't thought about weather.com,so I'll definitely be checking that out. Is Saturday Morning Training different for each plebe (based on what sports they play?? or do all the plebe's have to do the same thing?

My plebe's company or sometimes squad does SMT together. However that said, obviously that would not be the case for a football player or other athlete on game day.

Athletes usually slept through SMT or had a team practice of their own. All of the plebes in one company usually do the same thing, but sometimes companies or even whole battalions pair up and rock out. I had a friend who would plan to take weekends when he knew that the SMT was not going to be enjoyable. The 2/c would go into his room and wake him up for SMT and he would tell them to go check the weekend list. They had no recourse. Smart guy.

Your pushups and situps are very low.
Navy PRT standards are a minimum of 50 curl ups and 42 push ups. You should be able to perform well over that number for Plebe summer.

Your run and pullups are decent but everything else needs work. I don't know about the fleet standards but at the Academy the pushup/sit-up standards are 45/65.
As far as SMT you almost certainly won't be doing physical training if the training staff is following the rules. SMT isn't allowed to involve PT unless it pertains to the specified training for that week (which varies by company and can be found online). You may however participate in a "power hour" friday morning with the plebe's of a company which can be pretty difficult at times.
Your CVW is what you make of it. If you tell your plebe you want to do certain things they'll take you to do them (just don't take no for an answer if you get a lazy kid)

USNA has unique PRT standards. Don't get bent around the axle trying to conform to these right now. Always do your best and try to keep your performance trending upward. By the end of the plebe summer the PRT minimum will be the standard.

Yea your scores are a bit low. The basketball throw and the run look fine, but the pushups and situps should be higher. In terms of the presidential nomination, they only give out 100 appointments. I was one of the lucky ones that got in with just a presidential, but def make sure to apply to all other sources.

Don't overstress with your outfits - everyone here knows that you're a high school kid. Just make it conservative and not flashy. Ditto on the advice for leaving that backpack at home, it's good to know that you're willing to go another route to get your commission...but not so cool to flash it around here right now. SMT, depending on company, can be a pretty chill evolution or it can be an intense PT session...but with all the drags here that weekend you'll probably be fine, i wouldnt worry to much about that.

Sincerely,

Thanks everyone! And good luck to those of you who are also applying!
