Just thought I would enlighten everyone on how I received my special gift this Christmas.

Twas the night before Christmas and I had to work. Ringing up groceries for last minute shoppers. The last few days had been quite delightful. This was due to an LOA becoming fulfilled by receiving congressional and senatorial nominations. The rest of the family was gathered at home preparing for the evening festivities. Dad walked out the front door and their it sat, a big fat envelope sent from Annapolis. As he brought it inside and showed the rest of the crowd, the plotting began.

They decided to give it to me that evening as we exchanged gifts. However, our family is quite the bunch of goofballs. For anyone who enjoys the movie "Elf" with Will Ferrel, you will find this hilarious. In the movie, Buddy is trying to find a gift for his long lost father. As he walks through the department store, he finds a display for "That Special Someone". The catch is that it is a lingerie display. Buddy proceeds to buy the lingerie for his father.

Now back to our original story. Because I am the youngest family member I had the final turn opening presents. I was told that a certain box was to be my final gift. The tag read "From Buddy the Elf....for that special someone". I knew to expect something ridiculous from this package. I proceeded to open the package where I found.... a pair of women's lingerie. I began to laugh with everyone as they saw the puzzled look upon my face. However, underneath the lingerie was that very special envelope. I tore through the sealed envelope to find an official offer of appointment to become a part of the Naval Academy class of 2015. I looked at my family in bewilderment as I wondered how long they had actually kept this precious document from my posession. They continued to inform me on how they decided to scheme against me that afternoon.

Needless to say, it was in fact quite the Christmas present from the Superintendent. I hope you all find this story to be amusing and entertaining. Merry Christmas and God Bless.

GO NAVY!!!

Awesome story! I'm sure you'll remember that moment vividly and will retell it many times in the future! Congrats

I received my Offer of Appointment in the mail on Christmas Eve too, BAldridge. When I told my Naval Science Instructor from NJROTC, the SGTMAJ, USMC (ret.) said "Well that's a darn good Christmas present from 'ole Uncle Sam. Just don't expect your others to be this good."

My mid and I are reading this tonight, and he remarked that it was pretty clever of your family. He knows that I would never have been able to keep that secret. Congratulations on your appointment. You will tell this story to your kids and grandkids and it will no doubt live in infamy in your family throughut the years. Now, go forth and wrap yourself in bubble wrap until July 1!
