Thank you all so much for your prayers, sweet comments, insights etc. My son just received the call....
minutes ago that the surgeon will do PRK surgery next Wed. Please continue to pray that the surgery will be a success and he can pursue his dream of becoming a pilot.
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! batmom

I am so happy for you and him! So glad it worked out, and hopefully he will be sitting in that plane within a year or two!

Excellent news batmom.

FWIW: The academy is pretty thorough in their evaluations for PRK. If they didn't think it would be successful, they wouldn't do it or offer it.

My son came into the academy wanting to be a pilot. He didn't have bad vision, but it wasn't good enough as it was to become pilot qualified. They allowed him to get PRK surgery and it went perfectly. A day or two of blindness, followed by using eye drops every day for a while. But by the time Pilot Qualification came around, no problem at all. He received his pilot slot and all was good. Luck would have it, he received a Grad School slot to get a PhD right out of the academy. He still got to hold his Pilot Slot, but he had a slight change of heart. He decided that he wanted to be "More Involved" in missions, so he applied to be allowed to "TRY OUT" for Special Tactics Officer. He passed the selection board and turned down his pilot slot. After finishing his PhD, he is now at Hurlbert Field Florida training to be an STO. So in the end, he got what he always wanted. (Although his mommy isn't too excited)

But so others know, PRK surgery is available to ANY cadet who qualifies and wants it after they commit and start their 3rd year. It's Not JUST for those wanting to be a pilot. Mike.,

My DIL had the PRK surgery at USAFA and never had one issue. She is very pleased.

I was told by a very reliable source that they want a very specific eye surgery and it's best to get it done there. Don't go to the hack doc on the corner and get it yourself, you might very well get DQ'd

Batmom's son is a C1C at USAFA. :) He will be getting his PRK surgery done at a very reliable place prior to (hopefully) entering UPT.

My C1C called last night to say that his surgery is scheduled for Thurs. instead of Wed. So...I would appreciate prayers for the surgeon performing the PRK Surgery and for my son to heal perfectly and have his vision corrected.
Thank you all so very much for the kindness, support, encouragement and prayers!
