Forums is NOT something I can access at work. It is BLOCKED at USAFA. While traveling, I can access Forums on my IPHONE, but I'm a pretty busy guy. My easiest access to help you, help yourselves, is my email address Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil. I say this NOT to defeat the purpose of the FORUMS as a social networking tool, but to enhance individual reponses of those folks in need of answers, guidance, and assistance. Therefore, I dod not use PM, profile messaging, friends, and those other more subtle tools of the FORUMS. Sometimes I'm able to answer in nano seconds, other times, it may take a few days. But, I will respond. We thank you for your patience.

The FORUMS have proven to be a fantastic tool for group discussion. Even moreso, as a public place where folks can read, digest, and handle issues on a more discreet level. I serve as the "Bureaucratic Buster" for folks caught in the net somewhere along the medical processing line. While NOT every story will end in the individual's desired outcome, I WILL ensure they receive due dilligence of review and the answer to their question.

There have been two folks that regardless of my response as to the basis for their waiver denial and DoDMERB determination, refuse to accept the answer. They continue to "argue," for lack of a better term and I can no longer assist. The final answer after re-re-re-review is no. I will no longer entertain their assertions. That said, I've answered and worked with several hundred folkssince May 2008....those who directly post on the Forums and a much greater percentage of folks that deal directly with me. (I'm not a math guy but it started out of 1/3 posts and 2/3 that contact me directly....but it's now about 1/4 that post and 3/4 that read the FORUMS, but "lurk" in the background OR would prefer to work on a one-on-one basis). So, the fraction of people who were "helped" (assisted towards a successful outcome ---DoDMERB determination of DOES meet standards; waiver granted; or a complete understanding of "why" their conditions are not compatibile with military service) over those that disagree with everything =
Several hundred/2.

DoDMERB's motto is "leave no applicant behind." There is NO doubt that the Director and entire DoDMERB staff live that motto each and every day. We are here to help, not be an obstacle to dreams.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

I've gone ahead and "stickied" this post so it will remain on the front page for all future applicants to read.

Also for newcomers, many of your questions have been asked on this forum so look through past threads. Most people email them when they have questions regarding a specific dq that many people have no experience with, but basic questions about allergies, accutane, wisdom teeth, braces, pr, asthma, color blindness, etc. have been asked and answered on the threads. Also how to navigate the system for a dq. It is scary to get dq, but waivers do happen and by posting your issue, another cadet or parent can assist you, calm your nerves and make you realize that it is not uncommon. When you get into things like scoliosis, heart murmurs, major dqs that is when you will want to EMAIL him.

MullenLe is a wonderful guy, and constantly checks in, just post your question, unless you feel uncomfortable, and maybe other members can help, if not he will post his contact information to get direct access to him. I am assuming since the applications just opened up, you probably have not had your DODMERB already and being proactive. Remember he is only 1 person that can answer the question for every candidate or parent on this site, plus doing his 8-4 job. If everyone starts emailing him just for I am allergic to grass will I be dq'd or I have braces, but they are expected to come off by Mar, and now I am dq;d what should I do? (other posters can help you) We will all lose the man because he will be burnt out!

Good luck, I hope you don't need Larry, but if you do you will be thankful he and retnavy are here.

Thx Pima.

Not to worry. I have another 20 years and 6 days before I get burned out:shake: So, until then, folks can email me. But as I posted and reposted, my email address is available for everyone AND, becasue of installation of new electrical transformers, my email is down until 5PM MDT 5 Jul:thumb:

Folks, I've been a USNA BGO for over 8 yrs now and I can honestly say that Larry is THE SINGLE BEST THING that has happened to SA admissions in that time. You may or may not like the answer you get -- but he assists you in getting the answer in the fastest and most efficient manner possible. Which never happened before he came along. And that's all anyone can do.

So, please, do as he requests. It works.

I think you want to email this private information to Larry Mullen instead of posting yours and your son's name and email address on a public forum. Just an opinion...

Your best bet is to do as Larry suggests and send a message to the email he lists in his posts. Include your son's full name and the last 4 of his SSN. He can assist you from there. Doing that right away will save time.

Thank-you
I am new to this, an actually E mailed Mr. Mullen last night. I coppied and pasted the letter here because I was unsure. Will not do it again!

farem,

You do not want to put that info out there. You are new to this forum, but occasionally it does get spammed, and by putting your email address out there and your full name, you have opened yourself up to easy access for hackers.

MullenLE will assist you to the point that when your child does get their apptmt you will want to send him a thank you gift. That is how good he is.
