Hello. I'm interesting in going into the Air Force and I'm a little confused about the speech limitations in UCMJ. I'm completely obsessed with politics... so would I never be allowed to run for any kind of office? How did John Mccain run for senator and than president? What about Eisenhower? It's impossible to run for office without insulting people!

Both of those candidates held office after their military careers, hence UCMJ no longer applied to them.

So does that mean that when you leave the military it no longer applies? I thought I heard something about it applying for people who receive retirement benefits. Is this true?

Thanks for the help!

No running for office when you are active duty, however, you CAN run for office if you are in the reserves.
