Does anyone know why KP does not have the engineering ABET Accreditation for Marine engineering?
According to ABET website, they are accredited for Marine Engineering Systems and Marine Engineering and Shipyard Management:
Hi KPBASEBALLMOM. Just a couple of thoughts on ABET from someone who went through a couple of ABET reviews while working at a private engineering school.
It looks like USMMA uses singular ABET accreditation as opposed to institutional accreditation; that is, they accredit specific programs not the school as a whole. For engineering schools, that is the norm. That said, not every program has an accreditation process. ABET pulls its reviewers from the ranks of all the schools so there has to be enough programs out there to put together a review team and to come up with a set of standards. (Surprisingly, this was a problem with the solid modeling course I taught. Way back in the early 1990's there weren't enough solid modeling courses in the country to form a consensus of what to evaluate).
Given that USMMA has accredited programs and that they know how to get through an accreditation process (which is no easy task), I'm going to go ahead and take an educated guess that there isn't a review process for the other programs.
