I'm getting ready for BCT and putting all my stuff in a box that I will have a friend mail out to me sometime after BCT. What stuff will I need once I finish BCT? I have a sleeping bag, bank and insurance papers, my scientific calculator so far. Do I need to add a couple of pairs of civilian clothes or will I ever need to wear them (like when I'm with my sponsor family)? I don't really have a place to store my belongings over the summer so I'm donating the stuff that I won't need once I get out there. I am just trying to make sure that I keep the stuff that I will need and don't want to have to buy a bunch of stuff once I'm out there. Thanks

According to DD, doolies aren't allowed to have civilian clothes at USAFA. She wore her PC gear or sweats at the sponsor's house. You will also be required to wear your service dress whenever you go off base-- at least until after Recognition.

She said that you could store your civvies at the sponsor's house, just don't bring them to USAFA.

We bought or son a printer when we went out for Parents weekend. Not sure if you have one but he said that is one thing he was very glad he had and said he used it often.

Just get to and through BCT. Your squadron will tell you what you are allowed, and there will be a list of not-alloweds, too.

Back in the day, cadets (to say nothing of "basic cadets") were not permitted to wear civ clothing w/in 150 miles of USAFA. And, for those of you thinking ahead to Parents Weekend, that included eating breakfast in the hotel, too.

No more pre-planning. Just get there and get it done.
