My rising freshman son would love to visit the USAFA campus, but I'm not sure yet when that will be doable for us. If we can swing a trip, when would be the best month(s) to visit?

In the meantime, I saw an Academy Night at a local high school in our district listed on the USAFA outreach page. Is it too early to go to one of these events? I think it would help for him to hear info straight from the source, but if we do go, should he be prepared to talk to an ALO or MOC there? Or can we just listen to the presentation?

Academy nights can be very informative, typically with presentations from all 5 service academies. You don't need to prepare anything to go, just listen.

I went with my daughter in 2011 and attended Academy Night here in SoCal. Our MOC wasn't available but there was a representative from his office. They did have several cadets from the different academies answering questions. It's definitely not too early to attend.

Thanks to your encouraging feedback, we've decided to attend the Academy Night! :)

My son wants to know - how should he dress? Would dress slacks and a polo shirt be okay? Or should he wear a dress shirt?

We will be coming from another event, so he will need to bring extra clothes and change beforehand.

These things are really pretty casual, we came from a track meet earlier in the day with our DS here in Colorado about 6 years ago. Actually, One of the best presentations was from the Merchant Marine rep, if I remember right he was a Naval Academy grad, he was very inspiring. The USAFA rep gave a Powerpoint presentation... Of course, DS chose USAFA. Do you want to fly planes or not!!!

Just to clarify, DS did slip into jeans and a polo, but no shower after 3 events at the meet!!! Don't sweat it it...
