It is also the map I thin would be helpful to parents when they are up there.

I wouldn't be surprised if that piece gets cut off. OPSEC issues.

They'll probably only include the stuff that is already printed on the maps for visitors.

I'm sure people checked the app before it was released. OPSEC issues are kind of big. We just had a COMSEC incident here on my base, and it was a huge deal. One key was deleted a day late, and the commander ended up giving us a huge briefing. I guess it doesn't help that we are prepping for a UCI at the moment...

I agree that is was probably checked. But, sometimes new commanders have different views of OPSEC when they come it. Could be a new Supe, a new SF commander, etc. Never know. If it was me I would have some concerns.

Like Raimus said, it is probably just like any maps you can find in the visitor's center, or on google. I don't think that there will be any problems.

And as you will know once you learn about OPSEC, it's not about whether or not the information might already be out there, but how to make it harder to find. I can find a visitor's map of Langley, but they will try to limit the full map and details, despite that map and google, in an open pub. OPSEC isn't just about keeping secrets, its about making information in general more difficult to attain.

I've done basic opsec before, and I know that it's not just about keeping secrets. But a basic map as part of an app would not compromise security. On google with a few keystrokes and even less mouse clicks, I can access a map. To put it on an app would not make it any less hard to get to. At least, I don't think so, anyhow.

I guess that's the drawback of making the base a major tourist attraction!

Considering that a program like google-earth will let you zoom with live photos to any building or street on the academy, I don't think that OPSEC is an issue with having a base map on the app.
