We are going to visit soon. We may drive, may fly. Do most visitors fly into Denver and then drive down or fly right into Colorado Springs and rely on some form of shuttle to get to your hotel and then the academy. USNA ran shuttles to many locations when she visited last fall .

Any other sage advice on the subject would be appreciated.

Years ago when DIA opened, people used to fly to COS and drive to Denver for business simply because there were fewer hassles. If you've looked at flights recently, it seems more economical to fly to DEN and drive the hour to the Springs. My DS and DW flew to COS last September. They rented a car to get to the hotel and academy. It's not quite Annapolis. There were academy shuttles for Orientation Day but that isn't happening this year.

advice

The only other advice I can think of, which you have probably heard before, is to drink plenty of water. The altitude will dry you out very quickly and drain you of energy.

Hope you have a great visit!

typically flights to DEN are much cheaper than COS. So even paying to rent a car for the weekend and driving down from DEN is usually cheaper than flying to COS and getting a shuttle. Not always the case, but its what my parents always did when they came to visit

If you have to stop and change planes or have a layover in Denver you may as well get off and grab a car to drive. The car rental place will come and get you and the rental lots are very close to the airport. It is only about an hour or so to get to Colorado Springs. You can also do some sight seeing if you have your own rental car. Good luck!

Toll Roads

Thanks for the help.

I have been told toll penalties can add significant cost to your car rental if you do not activate auto pay when the car is rented. Anyone get bit by other unexpected items ?

Ok, I live in CO, so I may be able to help. Are you asking about toll roads? I live about 15 minutes from DIA, and about an hourish from the academy depending on traffic. That being said. You can take I-25 directly from DIA, without traveling on toll roads. If that doesn't answer your question, feel free to PM me!
