Acceptance thread-SLS

It's not actually a tab; it's just in a box in the middle of the page when you first log into the portal.

And I GOT IN TOO!! :shake::shake::shake::shake::shake::shake::shake:

Congrats to everyone else who made it!

Sadly, I don't see anything on my candidate portal (I applied the morning it opened). And I don't think location has anything to do with it.

usafahopeful,

where on your candidate portal did it show your SLS admittance status?
thanks

A new section came up called SLS at the top of the page, next to home, etc... It said under status that it was 'offered'
Good luck!

If you see that it says SLS OFFERED, you will be receiving a letter in the mail regarding your acceptance shortly. But make sure you fill out all the forms on the page by the date stated in your letter or else your acceptance will be revoked.

On the forms that are available to fill out on the portal, it says to send them in by the date in the email. I never got an email though. Will it come by snail mail even though it said email? Any other possibilities?

Accepted!

I got accepted yesterday :) I would not have thought to look on the portal if not for the earlier posts on this thread. Thanks for saving me days (possibly weeks) of anxiety! I am probably going to the second session.

I was offered yesterday, the 12th of January, so I was reading that PDF that has all of the forms in it that we have to mail - but where is this "date" that the PDF as well as you mention (in your above post)? Do we get a real letter (snail mail), or something else. If it's snail mail - how long did it take you to get yours?(If you've gotten it). I just don't want to miss the date since I live in Illinois and a letter from New York may take some time to arrive.

(And yes, I was accepted as well! I'll be going to Week 2!)
Thanks,
TheChicagoan

I think the sentence that said email was just a typo, because look at this part:

"We will send you a confirmation email with travel instructions after we have received your complete registration packet. Your completed forms must be mailed to arrive no later than the date indicated in the offer letter. "

So to me it looks like the offer letter with the date in it is probably sent by snail mail, whereas the confirmation after you've sent them all your forms is an email.

(Anyone else attending first session with me? :frown:)

Portal ID and password

How do you get the cadet portal ID and password? Did you receive an email with that informational after filling out the questionnaire?

There was an email titled, "Candidate Info For Admission to West Point". It included your portal ID and password along with the information you entered in your candidate questionnaire in an attached file.

How long after applying did you receive that email. I only received the email with the attached workshop preferences.

Wait, are you talking about creating a file with Admissions or applying to SLS?

You have to already have a file open with them to apply to SLS, and if you got the email with the workshops attached that must mean you applied for SLS, ergo you have a file.

Whenever you started a file with them (by entering your Social Security Number), that's when they emailed you your Candidate ID and password.

My son filled out the candidate questionnaire and the sls application, but no email was received with an ID and password. He does have an ID so he just got a new password and got into the portal. It says SLS Offered (Jan 12, 2012). We are assuming he got in! Thanks.

alright, so am i the only one on this thread who hasn't been accepted yet?

Congratulations to everyone who has already been accepted to SLS, I sincerely hope to join you!

Email confusion

some people got two emails-some only one.

The first email-everyone who filled out a questionnaire got. This had your candidate number in it and was needed to fill out the workshop preferences.

Some people got a second email confirming registration. Those second emails were/were not sent out by RCs. So depending on where you lived you got one email or you got two.

Yep, "offered" seems to mean acceptance!

And don't be discouraged, aargael, they probably have a lot of applications to sift through.

I have a quick question for you guys. I recently applied to SLS but I don't know how to check my status. Previously, I did not have a file open with the academy, and so I filled one out and received an email with my candidate number and password. From there, I was able to fill out the SLS application, and I then received an email saying that I had applied. People have been talking about a tab on SLS on my portal but I don't see one. What I see is this:
FILE COMPLETENESS STATUS
STATUS ITEM

--- Initial Evaluation Pending ---

** This evaluation will not begin until June 15, 2012 at the earliest for most candidates to USMA 2017.**
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Congrats to everyone accepted!

The SLS tab will only come up after either your SLS application has been looked at or you have been accepted or denied. I'm not exactly sure as to which one.

How do you retrieve your candidate portal password? I only got an email containing my workshop preferences and USMA ID. No password. Thanks for the help!

Seanaf- Go to where you enter your ID, then click where if says forgot password. They'll send you a temporary password which you can then log in and create a new password.
