Thanks, Kinnem. No wonder I couldn't find anything about it on the NROTC website! Navy is DS first choice, so he was so excited to hear he was awarded the scholarship.

^^^^ An impressive young man. Congratulations to you both! :thumb:

I agree, that is impressive, especially since AFROTC does not superscore SAT/ACT. 35 out of 36 in 1 sitting is amazing,

Thank you kinnem and Pima. We are proud of him, very. He has always been somewhat of an overachiever. He is also a year younger than all his peers since he skipped a grade. He took the ACT 4 times total. 32, 34, 32 and 35.

As well you should, becksgirl! My DS is also a "young" senior, having skipped 8th grade. However, the ACT was not as kind to him, lol. ;-)

I would like to say a HUGE thank you to all those who post on these boards. It has been and continues to be a fabulous source of information. Tidbits such as needing to accept the scholarship within 30 days of the award are invaluable--and may have saved our DS' bacon this week. He learned of his award via the portal on 12/30, but as of this past week, still no envelope from NROTC. We finally emailed NROTC just a few days ago, and in response they emailed us the packet "per our request." But the email did not contain any reference to a deadline for response. Letter finally came yesterday, 1/20 (dated 1/10 and postmarked 1/18) and the deadline for them to receive DS' acceptance is Tuesday, 1/23--only 4 days after receipt. And the packet was not enclosed--the letter said it would be emailed due to budget constraints. Thankfully, we had already received the packet because we'd asked for it via email. (The packet contains the acceptance form--it was not included with the letter.). We would not have been prompted to be proactive, but for the information on these boards, and as a result DS may have risked missing the acceptance deadline. THANK YOU!!! :)

Our DS received a Type 7 AFROTC scholarship and chose aerospace/aeronautical engineering. He also received LOA USMMA and applied to USMA, USAFA, USNA, Coast Guard and NROTC. Coasties passed on him but not a big deal. Just had MOC nom interview today so he will see what happens there and NROTC hasn't made a decision yet. Navy is first choice but open to everything.

Congrats to you all.

mdrob14, I am sure they took that 33 ACT over the SAT because a 33 is in the 1450-1500 SAT range, way above the 1310.

This is why many will state take both, because the boards will convert the ACT to SAT and whichever is higher will be used for their PAR.

Same is true with chiro. Their composite would have been 32 which is between 1400 and 1450, much higher than their 1340.

I state this so candidates who took the SAT only, and not the ACT will believe that the SAT score the recipients submitted were in fact used for selection, most likely it was the ACT.

One thing I have learned from this years board which will probably help for next years applicants is Being accepted to your schools you put down on your ROTC application, and the board seeing your acceptances will benefit you greatly. The board wants to see that you have a stable plan before awarding you money to a school. It would be a shame to be awarded a scholarship to schools, all of which you were rejected from. It definitely plays a role in the offering of scholarships.
