Accepted!-SLS

Ken2012, it is possible to be rejected and then accepted to SLS. It happened to my son last year. Now, he is an appointee to the USMA Class of 2015! Don't give up.:thumb:

Some ques about SLS app:
For ACT/SAT scores, can you superscore(take the highest from two separate test dates)?

For ACT English, do they want the score without the writing and they want the writing score to be the one scored 2-12?

You can superscore all test scores.

Admissions wants the English/ Writing combined score and the Writing score. I originally submitted just my Writing score but then thought they might also want the combined score, so I e-mailed them. They do want the combined score too. If you're wondering which to submit on the Candidate Questionnaire, submit the combined score (if you submit the Writing score, they may be a bit worried about you since it's on a scale of 2-12 rather than a scale of 1-36 :yllol:).

Another Yes for Ken2012 -- my son was rejected and is now another 13 cadet -- just work hard and apply early when the "real" application opens up. Line up your teacher recommendations BEFORE school gets out, submit everything so you can get your DODMERB clearance early, and get in shape for the fitness test, so you can get that out of the way early too. Also, complete a ROTC application in the spring so you can be in line for a ROTC spot just in case. Best of Luck to you!

Thanks Croatanmom and another13mom! I have high aspirations for an appointment overall but I'm still hoping for SLS. The service academy summer summer programs are probably the best I've ever seen and I would definitely like to attend. Even if I didn't want to go into the military, I'd still want to go. :thumb:

I really put the 10 because I figured ACT doesn't really have a writing section scored with the 1-36. That obviously needs to be changed(30 vs 10 ).

Ken2012 it is possible. I got a rejection letter last year, then an acceptance letter the next week and was told to ignore the first one. I was confused, but more excited than anything else. Good luck.

If you received a letter of acceptance, rejection, or national waiting list, how long did it take for you to receive that letter after your application was completed? Thank you in advance.

Wait list SLS

Does anyone know what your chances are if you are wait-listed? The letter said they would notify by April 15, which is a long time! I was just wondering how often a wait list person actually gets accepted.

I got accepted today! I feel extremely embarrassed that I did not realize how early it was and looked at the dates of the sessions. My school gets out on the 17th of June. So, I need to see when finals and AP testing is and decide if I can afford to take off the week. I am so grateful to be accepted though, and I hope that it works out.

AP testing won't be a problem, the last one is like a week and a half before the first session starts. So the only problem for you will be finals.

I hope it all works out. Will it look really bad and hurt my application if I decline the offer though if it does not work out?

One piece of advice:

DO NOT DRAW ATTENTION TO YOURSELF BEFORE YOU EVEN GET THERE!

The cadets DO have Facebook, and DO find groups of people. I remember from the second session last year there was a group of people who had planned to wear a certain color shirt so they could recognize each other. Little did they know, the cadets found this out also, and were ripping on them from the minute they arrived. I felt bad for the people who had accidentally worn that color.

Hahaha i remember this. In addition to not wearing a specific color to identify yourself, don't wear a shirt that says ARMY or West Point on it. Just go with a nice t-shirt or collared shirt.

So generally just fly under the radar?

What are some of the best ways to do this?

Mainly its just common sense. Just do what you're told, when you're told. The Cadre are serious, but they do want to have a good time also. Our squad (5th squad, 5th platoon) had a dumbell that was an award for the person who did the stupidest thing that day, and they had to carry it around the entire next day. The moral of the story is just use common sense, and do what you're told, to the letter, and you will have a great time.

and DONT LEAVE YOUR ROOM TO GO TO THE SHOWER/TOILET/BATHROOM WITHOUT PROPER CLOTHES ON!

My PSAT scores were not that good. So i decided to wait until January SAT. Hopefully it pays off.

robehren, I was also in 5th squad 5th platoon! I was in the second session, and remember the dumbbell award very well.

The point is, the cadre do want to have fun as long as you don't upset the CO or 1st Sergeant. As long as you do want you are told, you really can't go wrong.

anyone from washington accepted?

I have yet to get any mail from USMA regarding my acceptance to SLS.
Has anyone else from Washington been notified?
heres my current "status".
-class rank is currently terrible- top 40-45%. gpa is 3.2 cumulative (this worries me)
-PSAT- unknown for the time being
-SAT- 1870
-over 100 hours working at Seattle's UGM and Habitat for Humanity
-JROTC- platoon leader of the class and sent to Leadership Academy where only handpicked cadets go. I was the first freshman to have been picked in my unit's history.
-2 Varsity letters (soon to be 4)
-since im a junior, i cannot be a captain for any sports teams but my track coach recommended me to be one when i was a senior. Same goes for my swim team.
-2 years of japanese
-2 AP classes
-Taekwondo (was not able to achieve black belt since i moved right before my black belt test)
-studied abroad in Australia.

my distant uncle from korea was a 4 star general of the ROKMC. would this make a difference at all for my application?

congratulations to all those who have been accepted!
