Ken2012, it is possible to be rejected and then accepted to SLS. It happened to my son last year. Now, he is an appointee to the USMA Class of 2015! Don't give up.
Some ques about SLS app:
For ACT/SAT scores, can you superscore(take the highest from two separate test dates)?
For ACT English, do they want the score without the writing and they want the writing score to be the one scored 2-12?
You can superscore all test scores.
Admissions wants the English/ Writing combined score and the Writing score. I originally submitted just my Writing score but then thought they might also want the combined score, so I e-mailed them. They do want the combined score too. If you're wondering which to submit on the Candidate Questionnaire, submit the combined score (if you submit the Writing score, they may be a bit worried about you since it's on a scale of 2-12 rather than a scale of 1-36 ).
Thanks Croatanmom and another13mom! I have high aspirations for an appointment overall but I'm still hoping for SLS. The service academy summer summer programs are probably the best I've ever seen and I would definitely like to attend. Even if I didn't want to go into the military, I'd still want to go.
AP testing won't be a problem, the last one is like a week and a half before the first session starts. So the only problem for you will be finals.I got accepted today! I feel extremely embarrassed that I did not realize how early it was and looked at the dates of the sessions. My school gets out on the 17th of June. So, I need to see when finals and AP testing is and decide if I can afford to take off the week. I am so grateful to be accepted though, and I hope that it works out.

One piece of advice:
DO NOT DRAW ATTENTION TO YOURSELF BEFORE YOU EVEN GET THERE!
The cadets DO have Facebook, and DO find groups of people. I remember from the second session last year there was a group of people who had planned to wear a certain color shirt so they could recognize each other. Little did they know, the cadets found this out also, and were ripping on them from the minute they arrived. I felt bad for the people who had accidentally worn that color.
If you are looking, Norwich has a great summer program.

Hahaha i remember this. In addition to not wearing a specific color to identify yourself, don't wear a shirt that says ARMY or West Point on it. Just go with a nice t-shirt or collared shirt.
So generally just fly under the radar?
What are some of the best ways to do this?
robehren, I was also in 5th squad 5th platoon! I was in the second session, and remember the dumbbell award very well.
The point is, the cadre do want to have fun as long as you don't upset the CO or 1st Sergeant. As long as you do want you are told, you really can't go wrong.
