Accepted to VMI!

If you spoke to them and they told you to go ahead and apply, why the defeatist attitude? Giving up before you even start? Sounds like you are still feeling the sting from CGA - which is understandable. Take a moment, feel sad. Then pull up your boot straps and move forward. Sounds like VMI admissions is giving you a gift of time. That's a pretty special gift. Why would you throw it away?

That's true. I'm not applying just because I don't like the time restraints or that I don't want to go to a civilian school, the main reason is because I do not have a ROTC scholarship and I don't have that type of money. So now that I didn't get into cga I am going to a community college instead. I do plan on applying for ROTC next year and then maybe I will do VMI or reapply for cga. It's hard to tell. Hopefully I will get enough scholarships to pay for this first year or two at the local community college, otherwise I'm pretty screwed.

Keep in mind . . . VMI is a tough school . . . academically, physically and mentally. About a 40% attrition rate over 4 yrs. Don't apply on a whim. Make sure you are committed. VMI is one of eight U.S. Coast Guard direct-commission schools. http://www.vmi.edu/content.aspx?id=4294972142

Recommend you contact VMI or the Coast Guard to find out how that works.

Best of luck.

Thanks. That is another reason that I don't want to apply this spontaneously, I was to think about it for a while.

I was also wondering if you knew anything else about the direct commissioning schools and how it works.
