Is it true that to accept the offer of appointment I have to first FAX and then mail the candidate response paper?

Since I live overseas and the mail is quite slow, is it a problem if the physical copy doesn't arrive before 1 May.

    Thank You for any information!

Scan, and email it to the admission officer, also to your interviewing officer, and let them know your situation. I would strongly suggest calling them.

Are you legally obligated once you accept? Or any other sort of obligation?

Spend the few dollars it takes to fedex, or ups or whatever international freight company is in your area, the paperwork to the Academy. Even if it is 100 bucks it is better than losing out on 215K worth of education.

    @USMMA2019MOM

I called KP and they told me exactly what you said! Thanks for the info.

Best of luck to your son/daughter! (judging by your name).

    Its my son :D

Since you overseas, there is a health package that you need to provide and send back to the academy by May 15
You should download all the docs here: http://www.usmma.edu/academy-life/related-health-services-documents

Download and print 3 copies of each health document, you will need your health provider and dentist to fill some of these up. If you will wait for the official package to arrive, you might be very short on time...

I hope you also know about the TWIC card..

    Good luck!

USMMA2019MOM, Thanks for the link. I will be checking that out later today.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the TWIC card?

Thanks for all your information. You are a great source!

I am more than happy to help, somehow thinking of all future plebes as OUR kids that needs to be taken care of... :D
Ok, there is another link: http://www.usmma.edu/admissions/logging-class-2018
It was the logging in doc for class of 2018, I think the class of 2019 should get it around first week of May, after they will finalize all appointments..
    TWIC :
    "TRANSPORTATION WORKER IDENTIFICATION CREDENTIAL (TWIC)
All US students shall obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) prior to arrival at USMMA. The TWIC was established by Congress through the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) and is administered by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Coast Guard. TWICs are tamper-resistant biometric credentials issued to workers who require unescorted access to secure areas of ports, including all Merchant Mariners. To obtain a TWIC you must go to a TSA enrollment center twice, once for enrollment, the second time to pick up the TWIC. Enrollment and pick-up may be done at the different enrollment centers. Once you enroll, there may be a six to eight week wait to pick up the TWIC, so enroll early. The cost of the TWIC is approximately $132.50. Proof of obtaining a TWIC may be demonstrated to the Academy in several ways, listed in priority order:
    1. Mail a copy of your TWIC to Midshipmen Personnel along with a copy of your Passport prior to your arrival.
    2. Surrender the TWIC during in-processing at the Academy.
    3. If your TWIC is not available for activation, show proof of enrollment for a TWIC during in- processing at the Academy by providing a copy of the receipt from the enrollment center if you have not yet been notified that the TWIC is available for pick-up.
    4. If a student does not have a valid activated TWIC during in-processing, then the student will apply/activate at the NY TWIC center at own expense during the first available class free day. This day is Monday during the Fall Leave period or Thanksgiving Leave and after completing the enrollment/activation at the NY TWIC office, the student shall then proceed on normal leave. If the student was enrolled during Fall/Thanksgiving, the student will then activate during the Winter Leave period. NOTE: Non-US Citizens must pre-enroll for a TWIC prior to reporting to the Academy. They will be processed for a TWIC during the academic year and proceed to the NY TWIC"

    No, you are not.

You can accept & sign everything, mail it all back in, and not show up on I-Day without any obligation at all.

That goes for all the academies, not just KP.

If my DD checks the "wait until May 1st" box on the USMMA appointment acceptance form, does it hurt her chances or cast her in a negative light? For instance, can she be replaced by another candidate "on hold" from the same state? My DD is almost certain she wants to go to USMMA, but wants to weigh her decision carefully before signing. What should we do with the form? Is she obligated once she signs it?

    Thanks!

Dadx4 - Your DD has an appointment...unless she really stumbles with academics or has a negative event outside of school she can say wait with no issues. She needs to take her time to decide what is best for her. There could be some on here who will tell you to sign now or decline the appointment now so others may get an appointment if she declines...she earned it she is entitled to wait until the date the letter says to accept. This is a big step...it's not the same as your state univ it is very regimented with little free time and limited communication with the outside world for the first year. Even though most think they can handle the academy life, some cannot and do not handle it and they leave the academy. Then there are those that do accept and never show up to indoc for whatever reason.

So, take the time needed to decide and she will not be looked at in a negative way.

If you have any questions, PM me and I will try to answer best I can.

If DD decides to accept, welcome to the KP family...regardless, congrats and best to you and your family.

Thanks Buckeye. That was an awesome answer and the one we were hoping for. She's going to take a few weeks and think about everything that's involved. KP is such an incredible opportunity!

Dadx4 - Yes KP is an incredible opportunity. While your DD can wait, please note that if she does accept her appointment, the work will just begin...getting a passport or renewal. TWIC card, Paperwork, Logging in Book, Paperwork, shopping for required items, Paperwork, and more paperwork to copy to take and keep at home. Also, if you need to travel and spend the night, look for a hotel now...they will fill up FAST.

    Again Congrats! and best wishes

If you join the class of 2020 page the post documents on there to help you with all the required documents etc before you arrive at indoc. They posted the previous years logging in document do we old get started on things week before the one for DS 2919 class arrived. Also KP is great about working with you if DS/DD needs vaccines my DS started a required one and received 2nd dose over Christmas break. Just make sure they know ahead of time. And just as an FYI the wisdom teeth thing seemed to be a big deal for many people. KP requires that wisdom teeth are removed pretty much no matter what. So my advice in that is just do it- even if teeth are great etc.

@Dadx4 - My DD got her offer of appointment last week as well. She's doing the same thing your DD is - waiting to commit while other options roll in. She's very motivated and has been recruited to swim at KP; however, the first year requirements give her some pause. In the end, I think she'll choose KP, but as her father I know she would fit right in. We're still waiting to hear from USNA (my alma mater), but I think KP is a better fit for her. Keeping my fingers crossed. As you said, "incredible opportunity".

@swrakow - Congratulations! Maybe both of our DDs will be in the Class of 2020. Right now, my DD is virtually committed to USMMA (I think she may have even checked the accept box, but I'm not hounding her), but she's taking her time and I don't blame her. A service academy is a huge commitment!! For her, it's either USMMA or traditional civilian college.
