If DS has appointment to one SA, still waiting on answer from another, what to do? He is still deciding but doesn't want to drag this out? If he accepts the one, will the other SA know he accepted that and just write him off the list causing an automatic no? Will waiting to accept the first one upset certain people (i.e. Coaches) ?

Why would you accept the offer only to change your mind later. There is no rush. Just wait for all options to materialize and then make the decision.

It is my understanding that once you accept an appointment everything stops for the other academies. Tell DS to wait until all offers are in and then make an informed desicion. No need to rush. Make sure he knows what he wants and what he is getting into.

I accepted an appointment to USAFA and then received appointment to USMA a couple of weeks later.

First part of this ("everything stops for the other academies") is not true, second part is right on. DS has until the deadline to accept or decline the appointment. SA admissions do not talk to one another. It has been the case in the past that some forum members receive multiple offers of admissions.

The second part is totally right: there is no need to rush. Your DS is not "taking up a spot for someone else," "delaying someone else's offer of admission," or gaming the system. Admissions committees know how their process works. They know some offers are going to be declined. Wait to accept the offer your DS feels is the best fit for him until he has choices.

Meaning that the SA will continue to send letters of appointment to candidates that have already accepted appointment to another SA
I think the and was... Did you then accept the offer to the other SA and decline your offer to USNA?
