Active Duty to West Point

soldier15R - congrats on completing your file!
Those scores that I gave you would be the minimum scores.
To be eligible for USMAPS - you must be medically qualified, physically qualified BUT academically disqualified.
Academically qualifying scores would be above 560 on Math or CR on the SAT and 24 composite on ACT.
So - to be offered USMAPS, you have to have a SAT score in Math or CR that is between 500 and 560 or an ACT score between 20-24.
The purpose for USMAPS is Math or English remediation
While there is a limited number slots at USMAPS (246) - every soldier qualified for USMAPS will be given the opportunity to go to USMAPS.
That is how highly soldiers are valued by WP!

awesome im feeling really confident now...Im stationed in south korea and I had a a SF physical and a flight physical done a few months ago an passed them of course an the admissions lady said to send her one an she will forward it to DODMERB so how long will that take to get approved if it does? I really dont fel like doing another physical within the same 6 months haha

Once DoDMERB receives the exam results - they have 2 weeks to issue a medical status notification which would be qualified, disqualified or remedial.

Soldier15R,

Don't lose hope in a direct admission. I am a deployed Reservist (1 year, Afghanistan, Protective Services) and still received a direct admission. I'm not sure for SATs, but for ACTs I received a 29 composite (35 in science), which I believe is average (or just above).

Sawndog -
Congratulations on your appointment!

With the scores you posted for your ACT, you would not to go to USMAPS because you would not be academically disqualified - hence the direct appointment.
You have to be academically disqualified to go to USMAPS.
Scores below 560 on Math or CR on SAT or below 24 composite on ACT are academically disqualifying scores.

awesome! well they have my physical now so i guess all i can do is just wait and see everything else is done. If i get a direct appointment that would amazing but if i gotta go to USMAPS then i would be perfectly fine with that. i dont think many soldiers apply for this either so i think i have a good chance :)

I have accepted my appointment. Currently ad. Just wondering if anyone knows or has orders on what type of move it is to west point. The csm is on me about it. needs to replace me for the deployments I'm missing. Pm or post on here if anyone has any info

Tell him to calm down. Well, have your CO do it, but nonetheless someone needs to tell him to CTFD. No deployment was ruined by missing one soldier.

You belong to WP now. You should receive PCS orders. I don't believe they play the ETS-and-bring-you-back-in game.

CSMs love Army Regulations (excuse the paste, from a PDF):

AR612-205:

5. Active Duty Army personnel
a. Unit of assignment. Commanders of active duty personnel who
receive notice of admission to any service academy or preparatory
school will issue permanent change of station (PCS) orders. The
orders will show the selectee’s assignment to the proper holding
facility with duty station as shown in table 1. Regardless of any
authorized delay, personnel will report to the academy to which
assigned on the date in the appointment notice. Personnel will not
physically report to the holding facility cited in the PCS orders as
the unit of assignment. Strength accounting will be done according
to AR 680–1, paragraph 1–7.

DA Form 201 (Military Personnel Records Jacket) (MPRJs). Rec o r d s o f A r m y s e r v i c e m e m b e r s r e l e a s e d f r o m a c t i v e d u t y

c. Pay and allowances.

DODPM, table 4–4–3.) Any advance leave becomes excess leave on
the day before the appointee is admitted to any academy; it may
only be recouped as required by DODPM, program 10305.

d. Personnel accountability.
(1) Personnel accepted for appointment to academies other than
USMA will be reported by the US Army Student Detachment, Fort

Force Academy students.
(2) A DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from
Active Duty) will be issued on entry into USMA. Orders will be
issued to transfer the individual to the proper Reserve Component to
complete his or her Service obligation. On the orders, state the
amount of remaining obligation and state that the individual is
currently a cadet.
(3) Service obligation are voided when cadets are commissioned.
(4) Cadets failing to graduate must complete the remainder of the
obligation stated in their relief from active duty (AD) orders

No idea why I remember that AR, but hope it helps. There is info in that AR regarding reserve and national guard Soldiers, too.
