Hello my name is David I'm a freashmen in high school and I have ADD and i was wonder what it takes to get a medical wavier so i could still do ROTC or go to one of the service acaedmies-thanks

Hi David! Great aspirations for sure.

A history of ADD will generate an automatic DQ medically; however, there are some things you can do to help improve the chance of getting a waiver.

The biggest piece of information they look for is your ability to succeed without medication. I would highly suggest you sit down with your parents and then your physician and discuss this before making any decisions. You will need to continue to do well in school and your health is the most important thing, so don't do anything to jeopardize those things.

Things to discuss with your parents and doctor would be:
1)I want to go to ROTC/SA
2)I need to be off medications for at least 12 months to be considered for a waiver
3)What do you as my parents and doctor think.

Hope this helps!

I could be wrong, but I thought I read somwhere that you won't be disqualified (in the first place) if you meet those requirements (off meds for at least 12 months and maintian a satisfactory GPA). If you don't meet those requirements, then you will be disqualified and need to get a waiver. Like I said, I could be wrong so don't quote me on that.
