LOAs are almost like appointments before some is 3Qd (or nominated). Are appointments ever done that way, or do they not look at someone until they have been 3Qd?

Is a candidate putting themselves in a bad position by waiting for something like being medically qualified when they have all the other stuff covered and it is getting close to the January 31st deadline.

Is 1/31 the deadline for just the application or for everything?

Not entirely sure of your questions but here is the best answer I can give.

An LOA can be given before a packet is complete or after. It says that, if you are 3 Q'ed and get a nom, you will be appointed. Sometimes, an LOA is given based on less than a complete package but that is increasingly rare.

You are best off completing your medical as soon as possible. Some folks may receive an LOA contingent on a medical clearance.

Jan. 31 is the deadline for your package and CFA. Medical need not be complete.

Dear Candidate,

The deadline to complete your USNA application is January 31 at 11:59 pm. This email covers some important information to make sure we are all on the same page. Please keep in mind that January 31 is a Saturday and our office will be closed. You will not be able to contact us that day with last minute issues and we will not accept that as an excuse for a late application. Please do not wait until the deadline to try to finish everything.

What the Deadline Applies To:

Your application is complete when:

1) All of the items in the Required Application Documents box on your candidate page have a date listed next to them or are marked N/A
2) You have official test scores listed
3) There is a date for “interview submitted” at the bottom of the page next to your Blue and Gold Officer name.

If you have items that say “not received” or “waiting submission” next to them then your application is not complete.
PLEASE FOLLOW UP WITH ALL OF YOUR TEACHERS THAT HAVE NOT COMPLETED THE FORMS NOW!

IF THEY WAIT UNTIL MIDNIGHT ON THE DEADLINE TO FILL IT OUT AND GET AN ERROR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SUBMIT THE FORM AND YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE INCOMPLETE.

Mailed in items must be POSTMARKED by the deadline. Our mailing address is in my signature block. Transcripts MUST be mailed. We do not accept any electronic transcripts.

We will accept any ACT or SAT result from tests taken before the deadline (so yes, we will accept scores from the January 24 SAT). You need to send those scores to us as soon as they are available.

Any Letters of Recommendation, additions to your application or other updates MUST be sent by the deadline. We cannot update/change your application after January 31!

What the Deadline Does Not Apply To:

Your Medical Assessment does NOT have to be completed by January 31.
Your fall transcript does NOT have to be sent by the deadline (but please do send them as soon as possible).

Other Important Information:
There is no “final submit button” for your application. Once the criteria above are met then your application is complete.
Your nominations may not show up on the page until late January even if your congressman or senator has told you about it so DO NOT WORRY. If you were notified that you received a nomination then you did.

Sorry I didn't articulate my questions clearly. What I was trying to ask was whether or not the DODMERB needed to be finished by the 31st (you guys answered that, thanks!), and whether or not the USNA will send out appointments if everything except the DODMERB is completed, or if they wait for that to make a decision.

You can't receive an appointment until you are medically qualified. If you are going to be appointed if your medical clears, you could be sent an LOA, which indicates you will be accepted if your medical clears. Doesn't always happen, but can
