Admissions Status

I got my 3Q letter back in October...maybe I'm just overthinking all of this, it's probably the waiting game getting to me

Big Nick,
Based on your training and/or experience can you say what percentage of 3Q candidates fall into the admissible category and the competitive category? Thanks!

100%.
3Q'd is a higher status than admissible or competitive.
3Q'd means that you have been determined by those in Admissions at West Point to have met the admissions criteria academically, medically and physically.
Add a nomination and you meet the legal requirement to receive an appointment.

So ALL 3Q'd candidates are admissible.
Not all admissible or competitive candidates are or will be 3Q'd.
Hope that makes sense.

If you are asking how many admissible and competitive candidates will be 3Q'd, that is hard to say. You can be 'Admissible' and not receive a nom and therefore will not receive an appointment, no matter how 'Admissible' you are.

I think everyone is getting too hung up on the 'admissible' and 'competitive' terms. As someone mentioned, these are terms indicating candidate potential.
There is a 3rd candidate potential category - 'risk'. A risk candidate can earn an appointment if their file improves. It's just that at the initial evaluation, they met the 'risk' criteria.

I understand that as candidates that you want to cling on to anything that seems to indicate that you have a good chance for an appointment.
Don't get over confident if you are 'Admissible'
Don't get discouraged if you are 'Competitive'.
Everyone needs to keep updating their files until the deadline.

My FFR told me that admissable meant that you are fully qualified and that as long as you pass DODMERB and get a nomination you would be deemed qualified. Once qualified, there wouldn't be any major reason why you wouldn't be able to get in... Kind of confusing

Haha - well many of us FFRs get confused by all the terms.
This is my understanding:
Fully Qualified is an Admissions term that means that you are 3Q'd.
Technically, 'Admissible' does not indicate if you are medically Q'd whereas "Fully Qualified', does.

Well I already have my noms/DODMERB in placed, so would being deemed admissable come before being 3Qed? My FFR told me that I was admissable back in May when I had my interview.

Yes - "Admissible' would come before being 3Q'd.
'Admissible' is a candidate potential term. Hence that is why you could be labeled, 'Admissible' back in May before your file was complete.

So - based on all you have posted here - you are 3Q'd with a nom. You are now legally eligible to receive an appointment!
Depending on the kind of nom you have and/or where you are on the slate(s) will determine whether you will receive an appointment or not.

I would completely agree with Buff81 - do not spend any more time focusing on the "competitive and admissible" labels. The important thing is to get 3Qd (academic, medical and physical) and get a nomination. Keep improving and updating your file with any positive information.

I know this is a hard, emotional time - I went through the same thing with my son (currently Class of 2015). In about 7-8 weeks you will all know whether or not you will get an offer. Keep working on your Plan "B" just in case. Hang in there!!!
