Admissions, what we do know.

Who ME, what did I do, am I in trouble?

Hey thanks for asking! This is a repost from scoutpilot, I can’t take credit. He attended an academy briefing several months ago.

As for me, you ask? I enlisted in the Navy and found my love pushing big things around which turned into tug service, vessel assist, and vessel recovery after I left. My oldest son, like many sons followed his father, kinda. He went through Annapolis and then buds in Coronado. He too, had a very successful career working in the teams and now is doing other work after the Navy. To help my eldest, I was BGO for a bit, mainly to learn. My youngest son, wanted to follow the adventures of his big brother. However, the Army had interested him from a young age. I think because we traveled to DC one year and he fell in love with the history of the Civil War. He was very intrigued about Grant and Lee who both went to West Point and then found themselves in locked horns later on the battlefields.

DS later attended NASS and SLS and that solidified his desire to attend WP. Both oldest and my knowledge were out dated and obsolete to help him find a path to attend WP. Then I found this site with great info from others experience.

My youngest DS second attempt to get into WP. After his first attempt he attended a prep school that made big difference and now DS has a great shot at this time. He has received emails from his RC, that I have not shared, places him “cautiously optimistic.”

Some of my best days, but least productive are when they spend time with me and tug and the water, my soul is at peace.

:thumb: That is such a wonderful story of your sons and your love of service! Thank you so much for sharing that with me and everyone who reads this forum, and thank you for what you do. My DS has also received some cautiously optimistic news due to some chance meetings and some issues we recently had. He has been working hard at this since the end of his freshman year. I hope he is one of the lucky ones in the next several days and that he has the honor of attending West Point with your fine son and all the others who have worked so hard, prayed so hard, and endured this stressful process! Best of luck to all! Feb. 26 can't come fast enough! My DS 18th birthday is Feb 27th, wouldn't that be the best gift of all!!!

Thank You for the kind words.

When I was in the Navy I really didn't do much. I was like the valet for the Navy. I always got a kick out of watching the XO look at me helplessly as I had total control and fate of his ship, 18 year old, 130 pound punk. LOL Oh sure the XO could make his ship go straight and fast but he could only dream about how I could maneuver his boat. Nobody knew who I was. I was like the guy who was responsible for the third wire on the carrier, nobody cared. Until that third wire broke and all chaos broke out, even had total control of the flight pattern.

LOL Miss those days.

This is how WP adds up a WCS. "Whole Candidate Score" This is part of the formula they use to grade a candidate who has opened a file.

Academics (60%)
Class rank (15 points)
SAT score (35)
High School Grades (10)
Extra points for Valedictorian/National Honor Society/National Merit Scholar

Leadership (30%)
School Leadership – extra points for class or student body president
Eagle Scout/Gold Star Girls Scout
Boys and Girls State
Athletic Participation – Team Captain Status
Team sports

Fitness CFA (10%)

Being a recruited athlete /Under Represented Minority/Active Service can fall in to different category pertaining to WP Class compositions.

The standardized testing is a huge part of WCS and it is important to do your very very best and take the tests multiply times. My DS has taken ACT/SAT 8 times.

This is how WP breaks it down.

WP thinks your high school rank is more important than your GPA. However, to have a high rank (top 15%) you need a great GPA.

Also to improve your WCS, get those SAT/ACT scores as high as you can.

Again, resist comparing yourself to others. What is more important is ask yourself, "Have I Done My Very Best, How Can I Improve?"

This looks really good for my strong areas. Everyday grade is my worst area, so I am glad that is a smaller portion. Everything else I am going to be fine on, I think.

3Q = Triple Qualified

1. Academically
2. Physically (Cadet Fitness Assessment, CFA)
3. Medically (Department of Defense Medical Evaluation Review Board, DODMERB)
Thanks. I have been wondering that for a long time. Hopefully things will work. :)

By college grades are we talking about those who go to college somewhere else first, or if you take college classes at a college in High School, or both?

Those who are applying while in college (graduated from high school).

Odd. As of 15 Feb. the SE Region RC still claimed to have over 300 files to qualify.

Remember that the file completion deadline is 28 FEB.
Some candidates are still completing their files and will be until that date.
Some will not complete their files. Some will not be competitive.
Only the completed files that are competitive with noms will go through the qualifying process.

The RCs are working hard and long to select the appointees for the Class of 2017.
I understand that y'all are sitting on pins and needles as the end of February rapidly approaches.
While many will hear of an offer of appointment at the end of the month, it is not over if you don't.
More will follow.
Good luck and I look forward to seeing the names added to the 'USMA Class of 2017 Appointment Thread.' :thumb:
