As we learn more about the dangerous situation in Afghanistan, photojournalist Michael Kamber offers an insider’s perspective on how the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have failed to create more peaceful nations.

That apocryphal Edmund Burke quote is so terribly misused to justify fool's errands.

Are you saying that the justification for going into Iraq/Afghanistan was because we wanted to stop "evil?"

To the topic...wow, the writer paints a picture of Iraq and Afghanistan that is so bad that I'm almost inclined to believe that he had some sort of bias while writing this. If its the truth, this is just one of the most disheartening piece of literature I could read as a cadet and just confirms my fears for Afghanistan.

Um, yes. I personally had very little hope for Afghanistan and sort of came to believe that we left Iraq in an ok state. If this is good reporting...that hope isn't there anymore! Yes, I was surprised because I had no idea it had come to this - no idea that our leaders screwed up this bad. Our servicemembers, their families, and the people over there deserved better than this
